Kind of Blue.

STAN GETZ BOSSA NOVA (Jazz masters 53, Verve)
The girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, One note Samba, Quiet nights and quiet stars. Antonio Carlos Jobim(piano & composers, the father of bossa nova jazz), Joao Gilberto (guitar) , Astrud Gilberto (vocal),聽完呢隻碟,無論你鍾唔鍾意bossa nova, 以後都唔駛再買同類型0既碟.
2)Art Tatum - Piano Starts Here (Columbia)
3)Thelonious Monk
Round Midnight, Off Minor

1) Bryan Ferry - As time goes by",
The ex-vocal of Roxy music covers a number old song in a jazzy style and it is so fantastic that I highly recommend that everyone who like to start listening to jazz should buy one. The design and illustrations go with the style of the album and the singer, too.
You should and should not listen to the song "Miss Otis Regrets" first
because you will definitely be drunk and probably at the same time
underestimate the other songs.

何謂Standard?
1)"Standards" is neither a kind of style nor a particular historical stage of jazz development, but refers to a particular group of songs.
2) The songs played by jazz musicians can be roughly divided into two groups according to their sources. The first group comprised of songs written by the musicians themselves (Like "Love supreme" by Coltrane, "So what" by Miles Davis, "Nows the Time" by Charlie Parker[how dare you not to name him when talking about Bepop]) and the other is "Standard", meaning ready-made songs, usually songs from Broadway musical, by some great composers like Gershwin, Lorenz Hart and Cole Porter.
3)They are called "standard" because they are played nearly by all jazz musicans and always appear in the song list during their performance.
4) The songs are so popular among jazz musicians because they have the kind of chord progression which enable the musicians to improvise free on it and give their individual interpretations.
5) Thats why they are not a style--since different musicians play the same standard with various style.

a) The Gentle Side of John Coltrane
My One and Only Love
b) Love Supreme
Love Supreme
