Bayern Munich Boss Louis Van Gaal: I Don't Care If Totti Is On The Pitch Or Not

Van Gaal claims nothing will change whether Francesco Totti plays against them or sits on the bench.

Bayern Munich have already qualified for the knockout stages in the Champions League having won all four of their matches in Group E so far while Roma (six points), Basel (three), and Cluj (three) languish behind.

The Bavarians face the Italians on Tuesday and interestingly coach Louis van Gaal claimed he doesn't care whether Roma captain Francesco Totti plays or not, refusing to identify him as the danger man, indicating that his presence will not change Bayern's game plan.

"I don't know if [Totti] will play tomorrow or not. I don't care and it's not my problem," he said during the pre-match press conference, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

Bayern defeated Roma 2-0 back in September during their clash in Munich, but the Giallorossi have improved since that encounter.

"We want to make a good impression, even if it won't be easy since Roma are recovering [from their poor start to the season]. For us, the match tomorrow isn't important for the standings, but for our own development, to grow in self-esteem from the perspective of the Bundesliga," continued Van Gaal referring to Bayern sitting in eighth place, 14 points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund in domestic action.

"I don't think Roma will play vastly different from the match in Munich. I expect the same tactical approach, perhaps with a slightly different interpretation.

"I don't like the [defensive] approach [of some Italian teams], but it doesn't mean that wins and great results cannot be attained that way. I don't believe everything in Italian football should be thrown away, in fact last year I commended [former Fiorentina boss Cesare] Prandelli."
