Uefa confirm Reds revenue
Uefa have decided that Liverpool will receive the smallest portion of the TV revenue should all five English clubs reach the group stages of next season's UEFA Champions League.
The Reds were given an unprecedented opportunity to defend their title after Uefa bent the rules of the competition and allowed them to participate in the qualifying rounds despite finishing fifth in The Premiership.
A groundswell of public support following Liverpool's sensational comeback against Milan led to the game's governing body backing down from their original stance, and they have now allocated a minor slice of the financial benefits to Rafa Benitez's side.
It has been decided that Premiership champions and European Cup semi-finalists Chelsea will receive 37.5 percent of the TV money (or £7.5 million), Arsenal 27.5 percent (£5.5 million), Manchester United and Everton 12.5 percent (£3.35 million) and Liverpool 10 percent (£2 million).
Whilst this is contingent on all five clubs reaching the lucrative group stages the decision may well anger Merseyside rivals Everton who despite finishing a remarkable fourth in the league will now have their income cut as a result of the decision.
Uefa chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson confirmed that Liverpool's entry would have a financial knock-on effect for England's other representatives in the prestigious competition.
"It has been decided that Liverpool will be treated as the lowest ranked English team, but it will have an effect on the other English clubs," said Olsson.
In other news, released Liverpool goalkeeper Paul Harrison will train with Chester City in a bid to earn a contract at the League Two outfit.
Harrison was a regular in The Reds' reserve side last season, and Chester supremo Stephen Vaughan is hoping that the 20-year-old can impress during his time at the Saunders Honda Stadium.
"Paul will join us for pre-season training," said Vaughan.
"He will also be included in some of our pre-season friendly matches and hopefully he will earn a contract with us."
