RAFA: GERRARD CAN LEAD US TO MORE GLORY

  Rafael Benitez remains very confident that captain Steven Gerrard will sign a new contract before the start of the season and says he will lead the team to more glory following last season's Champions League glory.  
Benitez says he has an open dialogue with Gerrard and wants to build his new-look team around his captain.
  
Benitez said: "We are preparing a special weightlifting plan for Gerrard's shoulders because we want him to lift a lot of trophies for Liverpool in the next few years!
  
"I am not in favour of selling him and we are building a great team around him because we want him to be the skipper who wins the most titles in Liverpool's history.
  
"I know Steven feels the same way because we have already talked about it.
  
"Gerrard is a vital player for us and that is why we have not considered selling him. He had important offers last year but I wanted him to stay with Liverpool and he stayed with us - that was rewarded with us winning a big competition and it's our wish to carry on the same road with him."

Liverpool striker Milan Baros has confirmed that he will report for
pre-season training despite a lucrative offer from Lyon.

The French champions had made the Czech Republic hit-man their primary
summer target, with Gerard Houllier keen to be reunited with a player he
relied on during his own spell at Anfield.

With Djibril Cisse fit again after a horrific leg injury and Fernando
Morientes expected to make more of an impression having had time to adapt to
the pace of English football, question marks had been raised over the amount
of playing time Baros would be handed next season.

However, Baros is confident of proving himself again next term and has
spurned an offer from his former taskmaster.

''I'm going to start pre-season training at Liverpool on July 4 and we will
see what happens,'' Baros told CTK.

Baros' agent, Pavel Paska, has confirmed that his client did receive a
tempting offer to move to France.

''He wants to play in the English league, he will improve his abilities,''
confirmed Paska.

''He is still only 23. The offer from Lyon was great, in these days even
exceptional
