Premier League - Murphy: Let's do Liverpool a favour Eurosport - Fri, 20 Mar 15:45:00 2009
Fulham captain and Eurosport-Yahoo! blogger Danny Murphy would love to help his old team Liverpool by beating Manchester United.
I thought the result of the Manchester United versusLiverpool game was fantastic for two reasons; firstly because I am aLiverpool fan, I have friends there, and was desperate for them to geta result. And secondly; for the good of the Premier League. Unitedwould have been running away with it all if they had won, but now itsgame on!
Man U are still the favourites in my opinion but nowLiverpool have good momentum and if they can go into that final gamewith this confidence, its going to put a lot of pressure on United tokeep winning.
Our next game is against United on Saturday, andalthough they have just lost I don't think that affects whether it is agood or a bad time to play them. They have such good quality, strengthand depth, and any time you play them there is going to be thepossibility for them to hurt you. People have said there might be abacklash, but I think they just play every game the same: They try andwin, and it will be no different in the game against us.
Buton the opposite side we will be as determined as ever to get a goodresult and make sure that the last two bad games we played against them- losing 3-0 and 4-0 - will be put to bed. And of course, if we didmanage to do that it would be a massive favour for the Liverpool boys! We'll have to be at our absolute peak to get any kind of result againstthem but of course we will try our best.
Rafa Benitez said hethought Liverpool had showed other teams how to beat Man U, but I don'tthink there is any truth in that. I am not at all sure that you canwatch one game and learn how to beat them.
You would have tohave a bit of luck on the day and quality in your own play. That's whathappened with Liverpool. You have to remember that Liverpool have someof the best players in the world and they showed it at Old Trafford.
Weare motivated to absolve our last two losses against them. Thosematches were especially disappointing, both in the number of goalsconceded and in the manner in which we lost them. But we go in to everymatch wanting to win and to play at our best so it won't really changeour approach.
We are always determined to get points on theboard and to please our fans. I don't think revenge is a healthyattitude. Man U do have such a thing as an off day, we can see thatnow. I am really looking forward to it so we can improve our fortunesagainst them, both for ourselves and for our supporters.
