Liverpool under-18s coach John Owens has declared himself delighted with his side's morale-boosting 2-0 derby win away to Everton yesterday.  
Second half goals from Ryan Flynn and Jimmy Ryan secured victory for the young Reds in Netherton.
  
It ended a worrying sequence of three Academy games without a win and Owens was understandably beaming with pride afterwards.
  
He said: "It worked out well for us. I think the first half was just shaded by us, we were the better side. In the second half Everton tightened things up and got into the game. But that was when we got our first goal. The second goal was a screaming effort from Jimmy Ryan and it was unstoppable really."
  
The FA Youth Cup finalists created the better opportunities in what was a scrappy game and were worthy winners but Owens was diplomatic in his assessment.
  
"We won but both sides played their part and they probably went away from the game feeling they could have scored one or two," he added. "We are pleased with the win, but in no way was it one-way traffic."

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has scored a psychological victory over Chelsea captain John Terry ahead of their eagerly awaited FA Cup semi-final after winning The FA Cup Player of the Round award.  
Gerrard and Terry were among four Premiership players nominated for the award, run in partnership with UMBRO, after their outstanding sixth round performances. West Ham United's Dean Ashton and Middlesbrough's Ugo Ehiogu were also in the running for the award.
  
The Liverpool skipper has also made FA Cup history with team-mate Jamie Carragher. It is the first time that two players from the same club have won the Player of the Round award in successive rounds.
  
The Liverpool skipper was an outright winner, polling over 65 per cent of the 34,918 votes cast on TheFA.com. Dean Ashton attracted 20 per cent of the vote, with John Terry trailing on ten per cent and Ugo Ehiogu on three per cent.
  
He will be presented with an engraved silver salver and also wins £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit for a local school, club or organisation of his choice. VIP attendance at The 125th FA Cup final is also guaranteed.
  
Gerrard is the ninth player and the third from the Premiership to join The FA's Team of The FA Cup this season.
  
The Team of The FA Cup comprises Player of the Round winners from the First Qualifying Round to the Semi Final. This season's team already features Gosport Boroughs Jamie Laidlaw, Northwich Victoria's Paul Brayson (who has won the award twice this season), Leamington's Alex Rodman, Eastbourne Borough's Stuart Tuck, Doncaster Rovers' Dave Mulligan, Nuneaton Borough's Gez Murphy, Bolton's Ricardo Gardner and Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher.

Rafael Benitez has reacted to post-derby accusations of unsporting behaviour from his players by insisting: "We always play fair."  
Alan Stubbs went on record criticising Luis Garcia for an incident during the Blues' 3-1 defeat at Anfield.
  
"I have seen a lot of games and a lot of teams pressing referees much more than us," said Benitez.
  
"I was surprised to read anything like this about my team. We were the better team in the derby, even with ten men, so I don't know why anyone should talk about other things.
  
"When a player signs for us, we expect him to adopt the mentality of the club. That means showing respect for the other team, so long as they respect us, and showing the commitment and hard work associated with playing for Liverpool.
  
"We know what supporters expect from us and I know we don't have a problem with our players.
  
"You can see that from all our games. It's very clear and should not even be up for debate.
  
"We are not a club which likes to see players diving or pressing the referee. If you see this in other teams, and they're profiting from it, someone needs to do something to change it. You can't be too nice in that situation.
  
"The top class players and clubs need to give an example to others.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are on television more than other smaller teams. Youngsters will be influenced by what our players do, so it's really important for us to understand we have a responsibility in football to win, but also show fair play."

祖亞昆希望加盟利物浦

Liverpool have been long-term suitors of the Real Betis midfield and are believed to have had one bid turned down for the Spain international in January.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez will be in the market looking for a right midfield and is almost certain to bring in some new men in the summer.

Various European clubs are believed to be tracking Joaquin, but the player has set his sights on a switch to Anfield.

"Yes, I want to go to England - I have decided," Joaquin was quotes as as saying in the Sun.

"I want to go there for many reasons. The main reason is the coach Rafa Benitez. He is Spanish and knows me perfectly. Also, the fantastic atmosphere in Anfield, especially the European night make my decision to play there.

The player's father and agent Aurelio Sanchez admitted Joaquin's future is down to Real Betis agreeing a fee for the player with Reds.

"Everything depends on Real Betis. I haven't seen anything in writing from Liverpool," Joaquin's father and agent Aurelio Sanchez told The Sun.

"I know they spoke with Betis and the initial amount did not satisfy the club in January.

"But Joaquin will probably leave Betis. I hope Betis can let him go to the club he want to play."

Speculation in Spain suggests that Betis, who are perilously close to the bottom of La Liga, will look to bolster their squad in the summer.

They may therefore decide to sell their biggest asset to fund their spending, but it is unlikely Joaquin would be released for less than €15 million but Joaquin's comments will surely make Betis sell him to Liverpool if he decides to make a move.
