River Plate striker Gonzalo Higuain has dismissed suggestions he could be on his way to Liverpool as "just speculation".

Sources from River Plate have claimed Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard's brother, who is working as an agent, is in negotiations with Liverpool and a deal maybe concluded by Monday.

But the 20-year-old, who was born in France but is Argentinian, said: "I don't know anything about it yet. I would like to win something here with River first, before going to Europe. I'm focused only on River.

"If a formal offer materialises, I will discuss it with my family and the club."

He added: "It would be nice to be in Europe, but I want to stay and win a title at River first. Increasingly, players are going to Europe young, but I have to be patient. I'm progressing well here and I have to continue doing so.

"But this is only speculation. We still have to wait for an official offer but my head is here."

Rafael Benitez has expressed his sympathy for Steven Gerrard after the Liverpool skipper was overlooked for the England captaincy but said it is a bonus for Liverpool.  

The Reds manager added Gerrard has plenty of years left in him to captain his country and concentrate on helping Liverpool to more glory.
  
"Steven was disappointed but it's really good for us as he can be fully focused on winning more trophies with Liverpool," explained Benitez.
  
"He's more mature and a very important player for us as he is our captain. I think he can play for England for another 10 years so he will hopefully get another chance to captain his country.
  
"I was disappointed for Steven but Steve McClaren made his decision and I respect that."

記者王康寧報道 當利物浦主教練本尼蒂斯第86分鐘用馬克﹒岡薩雷斯換下隊長謝拉特的時候，智利人自己肯定沒有想到，僅僅一分多鐘之後，安菲爾德看台上的疑惑和焦慮就變成了震天的歡呼。第一次正式代表紅軍出場，僅僅第二次觸到皮球，上個月才迎來自己22歲生日的岡薩雷斯就用一個寶貴的進球幫助球隊取得了冠軍杯資格賽首回合的勝利。對於任何一個新人來說，這樣的開局都是再完美不過。

　　“今夜我在安菲爾德美夢成真”，操著還不是很流利的英語，智利人在賽後第一次接受了英國媒體的採訪，“在處子亮相中進球恐怕是每一個新人最大夢想，而我真的非常幸運。對我來說，過去一年對勞工證的等待實在太漫長了，因此能夠打上第一場比賽，還在比賽中進球，無論對我還是我的家庭都是特殊的一刻。”

　　同樣為智利人感到高興的當然還有當初堅持把他帶到安菲爾德的本尼蒂斯：“我始終都對馬克充滿信心，因為他具備所有成功的因素───速度、突破和得分能力，而這樣的開局對他和比拿美來說都是非常完美的。”就在一年前，利物浦以400萬英鎊的價格從西班牙球順壹爾巴塞特簽下了岡薩雷斯，如果後者周三的進球最終被證明足以令球隊晉級冠軍杯小組賽的話，那麼俱樂部投資的回報就至少是1000萬英鎊。

　　值得一提的是，球隊能否順利進入冠軍杯小組賽也將直接關系到引進庫伊特一事的成敗。只有躋身冠軍杯正賽確保至少1000萬英鎊的額外收入，才能為庫伊特的加盟提供足夠的財政支持。從這個意義上說，本場進球幫助球隊取勝的岡薩雷斯、比拿美以及在右中場位置上發揮不俗的小將彭南特已經值回了身價。

　　新人出彩固然可喜，但比賽依然暴露出紅軍體能不足、狀態不佳的嚴峻現實，他們在過去兩個賽季固若金湯的防線竟然一再出錯，實在令人百思不得其解。要知道，本場之前的連續3場熱身賽中，紅軍就是一口氣連輸三場，還狂丟10球，可是他們並沒有完全吸取教訓。上半場進行到第29分鐘，馬卡比利用主隊的大舉壓上打出一次高效的中路反擊，由中場博高利和前鋒科勞蒂之間完成了一連串細膩的短傳配合，最後由博高利利用愛斯賓奴艾朗素的漏盯以及芬蘭後衛海皮亞的冒進失位完成突破，面對紅軍門將、西班牙第三國門雷拿冷靜地施射命中。更加令人感到尷尬的是，這不過才是馬卡比全場的第一腳射門，也是全場惟一一次命介堡框范圍以內的有效射門。

　　幸運的是，僅僅3分鐘後，不久前才以650萬英鎊從布力般流浪加盟、本場第一次在正式比賽中代表紅軍首發的威爾士前鋒比拿美便將比分扳平，而這次攻勢的最初的發起人就是以670萬英鎊加盟的另一大新人彭南特。這名前阿仙奴球員在右路的突破傳中被隊長謝拉特撞到了馬里中場西索科的腳下，後者的大力射門被門將擋回小禁區，卻被守候在那里的比拿美等了個正著。

Steven Gerrard's fiancee Alex Curran has been arrested by police officers on suspicion of assault after a teenage girl was allegedly hit with a bottle in a Liverpool restaurant in the early hours of this morning.

It is claimed that a row between diners spilled over and that an 18-year-old girl from Merseyside was allegedly hit in the face with a bottle.

The alleged victim suffered a badly swollen face and has had to have x-rays taken of her injuries.

A friend of the victim has been quoted by the Echo as saying: "It was horrible. We were just having a meal after a night out and there was a fight in the restaurant.

"My mate stood up and started screaming for them to stop fighting and one of the blokes came over to her and was really abusive. He was swearing and ranting and knocked her bag off the table.

"A couple of seconds later someone came over and shoved a bottle in her face.

"We got a taxi to the Royal and spent all night there. It was really upsetting because her eye was all closed over. She could have been blinded."

A police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating an alleged assault in the Shangri-la restaurant at about 2.50am today.

"It is believed there was a group of about five men and women involved."

"A 23-year-old woman from Formby has been arrested on suspicion of assault. She is being questioned at a police station on Merseyside today".

Kevin Blackwell insists Liverpool have not enquired about Leeds United defender Matthew Kilgallon.

Reports have claimed that the Premiership club are keen to recruit the 22-year-old before the close of the transfer window.

Kilgallon, who has also been linked with top-flight new boys Sheffield United, has recently expressed a desire to stay at Elland Road.

And Whites boss Blackwell rejected suggestions that he has fielded interest from FA Cup holders Liverpool.

"Rumours that go round can affect people," Blackwell told Sky Sports News.

"It has been seen to affect managers and players alike. Sometimes these rumours don't do anybody any good.

"As far as I know there's absolutely no truth in this whatsoever, I was surprised when I found out yesterday.

"Matthew Kilgallon's got a massive future at this football club and we're hoping that he fulfils it here."

Blackwell is keen to focus on Leeds' game with Crystal Palace on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1, and he is predicting a tight encounter.

He added: "I think it will be a cracking game. Both of us are looking to get promoted, no doubt about that.

"It's a great start to the season. When you look at it, he's (Peter Taylor) gone with some new players, new signings, and is there to make a mark, but so are we."
