英格蘭領隊麥卡倫認為在國際賽上入球效率驚人的高治代表國家隊時每每信心更大。

現年25歲的高治在過去10場國際賽射入11球，包括上月對馬其頓時射入致勝球。

該名效力利物浦的前鋒已於本周重返英格蘭陣營，預備周末對馬其頓，麥卡倫說：「高治已為了隊中不可或缺的一分子。或許在他初次上陣時仍然覺得有點不自在，但在一連串入球及精彩演出後，他已完全融入隊中。

態度是關鍵的因素，幸運地我能夠和一班工作態度充滿熱誠的球員合作。高治、朗尼及夏格維斯都是當中的表表者，他們全都愛為英格蘭而戰。

這是參與足球比賽的一大關鍵，也往往我足球哲學的重要綱領。」

麥卡倫也承認，高治的入球數字令他難以將其剔除於出賽名單之外。

該名高大前鋒自協助英格蘭以1-0小勝馬其頓後上陣機會甚少，一個月內也只曾出賽204分鐘而已，不過上周於歐聯出戰加拉塔沙雷隨即個人梅開二度協助球隊取勝。

麥卡倫續道：「永遠都會有人向他提出質疑，而他也以球場上表現來解答。上周那兩個精彩的入球，我在訓練場上已曾見他做過。

他並非只單靠6呎7吋的身高，他擁有極佳球感、控球能力及進攻意識，他不斷在進步，也持續取得入球。」

麥卡倫強調，利物浦的輪換政策不會影響高治的狀態：「他回到英格蘭陣中時精神往往為之一振，只要他比賽時能保持之前的佳態，我已心滿意足。」

利物浦領隊賓尼迪斯希望一眾代表國家隊出賽的紅軍球員能認真思考球隊未來。

由於陣中大部分球員均需離隊代表所屬國家出賽，期間利物浦將只剩下6名球員練習。

他對球會官方網站〔www.liverpoolfc.tv〕表示：「我並非一個愛空談的領隊，我只希望實事求是。雖然現時只剩下六名球員，我也會開始努力。」

賓尼迪斯認為球隊在上周六是表現較佳的一方，他也對球隊今季作客未嘗一勝不以為然：「在過去三場作客比賽，明顯地己隊是射門較多的一隊，只是未能把握機會而已。」

「我們要改善射門的準繩度，我對己隊球員仍有信心，我認為他們會取得進步。」

Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has been handed the captain's armband for Wales' Euro 2008 qualifiers.

John Toshack's side host Slovakia at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday before taking on Cyprus at home the following Wednesday.

The former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers hit-man has been chosen to deputise for the injured Ryan Giggs, despite facing a potential court appearance in Cardiff on a charge of common assault.

Bellamy denies the charge, which stems from an alleged incident involving two women in a Cardiff nightclub on February 5.

Despite the possibility that the 27-year-old may miss the Cyprus qualifier, Toshack has opted to appoint the fiery goalscorer to lead Wales out in both home games.

The Principality are looking to bounce back in Euro 2008 qualifying Group D, having opened their account with a late 2-1 defeat in Czech Republic last month.

With Germany and Republic of Ireland still to play in their group, Wales will likely need maximum points from both matches this month in order to keep their chances of qualifying for Austria and Switzerland alive.

Rafael Benitez has shrugged off the disappointment of losing at Bolton on Saturday and assured supporters that he's more determined than ever to see Liverpool put right the wrongs and get back to challenging for a place at the top of the table.  
While the Liverpool manager is still unhappy with the assistant referee's mistake that led to Pepe Reina being wrongly penalised for handball outside the area, Benitez believes that the best way to react is with even more hard work.
  
"After the weekend we've had, I feel even more determination for working harder, improving the side and seeing the best from my team, and I want to see the same response from the players," he revealed.
  
"They know if we don't get the decisions, the best response is to score more goals. If we have had 14 shots on goal, we must be determined to have 30. If there's a big mistake in the game, we don't want to depend on the decisions to create more chances of our own.
  
"I'm not a manager who likes to talk and talk. I like to work and work. We are starting from now with the six players we have, but I expect those who've left for international duty to think a lot about what happened on Saturday and be ready to show a reaction when they come back in 10 days.
  
"I know a lot of people are talking about stupid things when they talk about the game. In the first half we played better than Bolton, and had a lot of shots on goal, but it's true we didn't create clear chances. The decision of the linesman was a turning point. It's the first time I have seen a linesman who wants to be a star. But in future we must make sure we don't lose games because of these mistakes.
  
"There is a big difference between the final score and what happened in the game. It's really frustrating because in different games there have been similar situations, and I hope by the end of the season these things will balance.
  
"In the last three away games, it's clear we've had more shots than our opponents and we've not taken our opportunities. I would be more worried if we'd played three games and not looked like scoring, but because we could have scored goals in all these games we must still feel positive.
  
"We need to improve our accuracy in front of goal, but I still believe in the players and know we will be better this season. The fixture list has made things virtually impossible for us at times. We have a lot of games when the players come back, but at least we'll be able to train with them. I spoke to a lot of them yesterday, and between now and when they come back, I will be talking to most of them on the phone and telling them to think hard about what we must do when they come back."
