ITALY
Buffon: 7 - Made three fine saves at 0-0 but he was only delaying the inevitable, and he could do nothing on the goals that went past him.
Zambrotta: 3.5 - Legs are going, and very questionable whether he is good enough for Italy any longer. Marco Motta, Davide Santon anyone?
Cannavaro: 4 - Started well and made a goalsaving tackle on Kaka, but played Luis Fabiano onside for the first goal. Was abandoned by the three-man Italy midfield.
Chiellini: 3.5 - Worryingly for Italy fans, Chiellini has had a poor tournament, and he was again very rash this evening.
Dossena: 3.5 - A defensive disaster. Played Robinho onside and then scored an own goal on the same move. Couple of good crosses in the second half, but all in all a catastrophe.
Montolivo: 3.5 - Like a lost schoolkid in the middle-of-the-park. Bullied by his Fiorentina team-mate Felipe Melo, and hooked at half time.
Pirlo: 6 - Clearly back to his best this Confederations Cup, but what can Pirlo do when he is surrounded by such incompetence?
De Rossi: 4 - A very poor game. Missed a tackle for the second Brazil goal, deflected a shot onto own his own post, and left a gaping hole in the centre of midfield as Brazil broke through at will.
Camoranesi: 6.5 - Italy's best player tonight without doubt. Created a couple of opportunities for Pepe, and looked dangerous coming forward.
Iaquinta: 4 - Just never got into the game, and looked horribly uncomfortable out on the left. Subbed before half time for Rossi in a tactical move.
Toni: 3 - Is Lippi the only person in the world who doesn't realise that Toni is finished? The slowest thing on two legs since my grandmother before her hip replacement.
Substitutes
Rossi: 6 - Shrugged off the ball too easily by Kaka in the build-up to third Brazil goal. Tested Julio Cesar with a couple of long-rangers.
Pepe: 6.5 - It says it all for how bad Italy were this evening that Pepe actually looked good when he came on. Twice went close to scoring.
Gilardino: 5.5 - Better than Toni, but so is my grandmother.
BRAZIL
Julio Cesar: 6 - A virtual spectator for the first 70 minutes, although his goal came under a bit more pressure towards the end of the game.
Maicon: 8.5 – Far too powerful for Italy down the right flank, crucifying Dossena at times. Maicon's had the shot that was deflected into the path of Fabiano for the first goal.
Lucio: 7 - An easy night's work for Lucio at the back. Hardly had to break sweat against the lumbering Toni. Hit the post down the other end with a crosshot.
Juan: 6 - Was a doubt for the game to start with, and lasted only 25 minutes before he was forced off. Had started well before his enforced substitution.
A Santos: 6.5 – Comfortable for most of the game, but had a tough time of things against Pepe in the last 20 minutes or so.
Gilberto Silva: 7 – Would have been tagged as a weak link, but comfortably held his own in midfield, despite the odd burst from Camoranesi.
Felipe Melo: 8 - Dominated the midfield, and is really starting to look like one of the strongest players in his position in the world.
Ramires: 6.5 - Missed an early one-on-one, and wasn't as impressive as in the United States game. Although he didn't need to be, given the shambolic nature of Italy.
Kaka: 7 - Played in second gear all night, and yet still managed to threaten the Italy goal on countless occasions. Provided assist for second goal, and twice went close to scoring.
Luis Fabiano: 8 – Led the line well, and scored Brazil's first two goals. Also created the early chance for Ramires.
Robinho: 8 - Italy did not know how to defend against Robinho during his winding runs forward. Helped create the second and third goals, and was involved in most of Brazil's attacking moments, even if his final ball was wasteful on occasions.
Substitutes
Luisao: 7 - Replaced Juan, and was very solid.

Josue: N/V
