Fans of the “Twilight Saga” are in for a treat next year as reports confirm that the third installment, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” steps up a notch to earn the IMAX treatment. The vampire-series would be joining in the ranks of action pictures “The Dark Knight” and upcoming “Avatar” as well as animated family-oriented flicks “Kung Fu Panda” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” in IMAX theaters. Originally, IMAX only catered to film featuring lush vegetation such as “Blue Planet” and “Wild Ocean” for the immersive experience the format provides, but today they are expanding their franchise to ride with the success of box-office hits.
IMAX Filmed Entertainment representative Greg Foster elaborates on the choice stating, “With our growing theater network, we’re poised to take advantage of the rapidly growing fanbase devoted to this dynamic, cutting-edge series”. Both IMAX and the “Twilight Saga” would benefit from this turn as IMAX theaters notably carry a premium ticket price drawing in a possible double in earnings for “Eclipse” on the Fourth of July weekend.
“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” appearance on IMAX format will join other highly anticipated films hitting IMAX theaters in 2010 including Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and Christopher Nolan’s “Inception”.
Audience would be taken into a one-of-a-kind journey to the lush Pacific Northwest and Canada setting where all the previous “Twilight” films were shot. The struggle of vampires and werewolves in “Eclipse” would be raised higher increasing the tension, excitement, and anticipation for wonderfully crafted dark, fairy-tale themed film. With its release in IMAX, producers are hoping it would connect the films more to the audience and let them feel immersed to the world of “Twilight”.
