Hoeneß confirms Diego deal all but done
The hottest topics at VfL Wolfsburg throughout the day on Thursday were the rumours of further transfer activity at the club. For that reason, Dieter Hoeneß took the time on Thursday afternoon to meet with the throng of press representatives and make a statement on the issue of the signing of Diego. And as the VfL manager confirmed, the transfer of the Brazilian to the ‘Wolves’ has now almost been completed.
"It’s a known fact that Diego is here. He has been through the standard medical examination and passed it successfully," admitted Hoeneß, who did not wish to confirm the transfer just yet. The contract has already been signed by Juventus Turin and now only the player, who is expected in Wolfsburg later in the evening, must put pen to paper to complete the move: "Right now it is unclear as to when exactly the final deal will be completed but I can tell you that we have enjoyed some good talks with the agent."
The question as to whether Diego could possibly be involved against Mainz at the weekend came a little too early for Hoeneß to give a definite answer, but he didn’t completely deny that such a scenario is possible. The manager went on to comment on any other transfer speculation in relation to the Diego move: "We made it very clear that we would not be allowing Zwetschge Misimovic to go so long as we have no alternative for his position. That’s exactly how it is at other clubs too. It makes no sense trying to juggle 15 balls at the same time – it the just all becomes increasingly more complicated," said Hoeneß, and he concluded: "There will be no changing the fact that the transfer window does not close until August 31st."
