Mr. Leung,
Greeted with a dining invitation to all fellow HKU Councillors, we are lost in words for your futile attempt to ridicule peace. Within the 3-year term as the HKSAR Chief Executive, our society has yet to enjoy peace, but is rather overloaded with rage and discontent. Regardless of the ever-growing social grievance, it’s disappointing that this chief executive who is supposed to hold accountable to his people, refrained from stepping down for his wrongdoing. What puts us at more unease is that, he wishfully expect that such an occasion would alleviate all recent unrest, which left us wordless.
When a man destitute of benevolence is in a high station, he thereby disseminates his wickedness among all below him. Though our President, the undergraduate representative at HKU Council, was also invited, we yet find no proper justification for her to attend an occasion that merely papers over cracks of such an feeble-minded, unscrupulous position holder.
As the chief of the city, sir you abused the authority by criticising our official publication “Undergrad”, which is a despicable attempt to suppress the freedom of speech totally unsuited for a man of such stature. disregards of his identity. In response to the recent enquiries from the media, sir you remarked that the Chancellor is barely of honorary nature and need not discuss with schoolmates and has no obligation to discuss on constitutional issues. A stark contrast would be the honourable Professor Mathieson, the President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his respect towards institutional autonomy and the students’ freedom of speech. Disappointingly his infringement to students' affairs is manifestly underhand. We therefore, were left with much shame to have a Chancellor who betrays every member of Hong Kong.
Previously as the Council Chairman at the City University of Hong Kong, sir your dictatorship afflicted the school like contagious diseases, enveloping the academia in terrible fear, with negative comments flooding in. What happened at the City University mirrors today’s Hong Kong. Misappropriating the CE seat with a mere 689 vote serves to prove only your moral bankruptcy. Your indifference and disrespect towards public opinion was the sole cause of the 8.31 NPCSC decision, which catalysed the subsequent rebellion. In those 79 days, the government abused its power to violently suppress honourable acts of civil disobedience. Students fighting for justice were beaten and wounded, soaked in blood; persecutions come one after the other, white terror loomed large. Seeing all these notorious deeds, any 5-year-old child will agree that the current Chief Executive is just too vicious, venomous and heartless, utterly incompetent to be a shepherd.
With all these said, we simply want to remind fellow members and friends our University’s motto “Sapentia et Virtus”. Never, ever compromise our long established righteousness.
