托利斯99巴仙會加盟了
Liverpool's efforts to sign Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres moved a
step closer last night when an influential figure at the Spanish club
conceded the player's destiny was in his own hands.
Fernando Torres: could be playing for Liverpool next season
However, the two clubs remain apart on key areas in the structure of a
complicated transfer deal and, with Torres on holiday, sources at Anfield
are not expecting a speedy resolution to their courting of the 23-year-old.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will, nevertheless, have taken
encouragement from the pronouncements of Atletico's major shareholder, Gil
Marin, who admitted: "Nobody is indispensable. We are trying to create a
competitive team and no player by himself, very good though he is, is able
to make a team achieve its aims.
"Atletico are building a team that does not revolve around Fernando Torres
but around the team as a whole. I would be delighted if Fernando was to
continue here, but the future is going to be decided by Fernando himself.
"We have spoken to him and told him we would like him to stay. It is normal
that he has doubts. It is normal that the offers and everything surrounding
them has made him think.

"Torres knows that Atletico want him and if Fernando wants to continue at
Atletico, he is going to continue."
Atletico fans vented their feelings yesterday, staging a demonstration in
the city, demanding their prize asset remain but, meanwhile, behind the
scenes comments from the Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia also seemed to
bring the Torres saga a step closer resolution.
Garcia, often cited as a potential exchange player in the deal along with
his Anfield team-mate Djibril Cisse, indicated that he would not oppose a
return to his native Spain.
However, it is uncertain whether Atletico would accept players as a
makeweight or whether Liverpool would have to table the full £25 million
that will activate Torres' release. In either scenario, the Liga side are
holding out for an offer equal to that full amount.
Further muddying the waters is the issue of Torres' entitlement to 10 per
cent of that fee, part of his contract. Both clubs have indicated that they
are not willing to cover Torres' "cut" of the deal and negotiations threaten
to be long and drawn out.
In any case, Torres is understood to be on vacation until July 10 and
unwilling to enter negotiations until then. |
