OWEN'S MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FOR CISSE
Mark Platt 01 November 2004
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has issued a 'get well soon' message of support for broken leg victim Djibril Cisse.
Owen was saddened to see the Frenchman suffer his horrendous injury at Ewood Park on Saturday and immediately got in touch with close pal Jamie Carragher to pass on his sympathy.
"I saw the highlights of the game and I saw Cisse break his leg. It's hard to comfort anyone when he has done that," says Owen, who yesterday continued his recent run of good form for Real Madrid by scoring in the 2-0 win over Getafe.
"I just hope he makes a speedy recovery. It's the worst possible thing that could happen to a player. I spoke to Jamie Carragher and asked him to pass on my best wishes.
"I know Cisse a bit. I was wearing the number ten shirt at Liverpool when he came in and took the number nine shirt.
"In the short time we were together I got to know him because we were sitting alongside each other in the dressing room.
"He didn't seem to speak much English but he seems like a nice fella."
