Scotland completes Wigan transfer
Scotland was Swansea's top scorer for the past two seasons
| Wigan have completed the signing of Jason Scotland from Swansea for £2m.
The transfer had been agreed last week but the striker has now received the necessary international clearance.
The30-year-old, who has been given a two-year deal, told Wigan's website:"It's great to get to play in the Premier League. It's a big step up.
"HopefullyI can take it in my stride and do well. Just thinking about lining upagainst some of the best players in the world makes me smile."
Scotlandwill be reunited with former Swansea manager Roberto Martinez at theJJB Stadium, the Spaniard having taking the vacant Wigan post followingSteve Bruce's departure to Sunderland.
During two successfulseasons at Swansea, Scotland scored 53 goals from 91 starts and waspart of Martinez's squad that secured promotion to the Championship in2008. Burnley had an estimated £1.25m bid rejected for Scotland butWigan were always favourites to sign the Trinidad and Tobagointernational once Martinez expressed an interest.
"Me and thegaffer were together at Swansea City for two seasons and it's excitingto be able to team up again here," added Scotland.
"He likes his team to get the ball down, move it around and keeppossession. He wants his players to be in complete control of the gameand because of this tactical approach to the game Swansea were able todo so well last season.
"I'm sure he's going to try and introduce that kind of attractive style of play here and I can't wait to be a part of it."
Scotlandwas rated at £3m by the Swans but they had to accept less as thestriker has only 12 months left on his Liberty Stadium contract.
The£2m represents a substantial profit for the Championship side, who paid£25,000 to St Johnstone for him in the summer of 2007.
"Obviously we are disappointed to lose Scotland," Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told his club website when the fee was agreed.
"Ican assure our fans that all the funds received from the sale of Jasonwill be reinvested into the club. We will endeavour to do that beforethe season starts."
Scotland is Martinez's third signing asWigan boss - midfielders Jordi Gomez and Hendry Thomas arriving earlierin the summer - while Martinez has also agreed a £2m fee with Hamiltonfor another midfielder, 19-year-old James McCarthy.
