UNDER-18S FACE WOLVES
Liverpool's youth cup heroes return to Academy league duty on Saturday morning when the Reds host Wolves.
John Owens side are full of confidence and are fourth in their Academy group league. Wolves are currently bottom so the Reds will be hoping to keep up their winning momentum after the 6-0 win over Carlisle United in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final on Monday.
Owens knows the FA Youth semi-final against Southampton will be a tough prospect for the Reds but reported that confidence was high amongst the players.
"We are obviously delighted with reaching the semi-finals," enthused Owens. "I was very pleased with the performance in that we started well straight away. In previous games we have not settled, sometimes not until the second half.
"We changed things slightly in that Paul Anderson played up front and was again influential.
"Craig Lindfield carried on from his two goals against Burnley with a good hat-trick, while young Ben Parsonage came in on the right and did well.
"We felt we were better than Carlisle but we had to show that, which we did. But Southampton will be more like what we are used to in the Academy League.
"Southampton are running away with their section, and although we feel our North West section is the strongest of all four in the country, they are winning each week and that breeds confidence, so we will have to play as well again as we have done so far in the competition." |
