Liverpool aim to bounce back from the defeat in Benfica when they return to Premiership action against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, and as always you can listen to live commentary on Liverpoolfc.tv.  
With Manchester United playing in the Carling Cup final a Liverpool win against City would see the Reds go level on points with Sir Alex Ferguson's side. However, Liverpool would stay in third place as United have a superior goal difference.
  
Manchester City are in 10th place in the Premiership and are without the injured Andy Cole, who is recovering following knee surgery.

北京時間2月26日20:15，英格蘭足球超級聯賽進行了第27輪的一場比賽，利物浦主場1比0力克曼城，基維爾在第40分鐘的進球為利物浦帶來了3分。
　　
　　本場比賽中國球員孫繼海由于腿傷原因並沒有出現在曼城的出場名單上。而利物浦的前鋒線則排出了雙高前鋒，摩連迪斯與哥洛治的搭檔，意在用高度沖擊對方。

9 mins: The corner fails to produce anything of note, but the Reds have made a solid start here.

8 mins: Morientes flicks Crouch's header on to Kewell who has been left unmarked. However, the City defence recovers quickly and the Australian's shot is blocked for another corner.

6 mins: Again Morientes gets the ball insde the box. This time he does turn and get a shot in but his effort is deflected behind for another corner by Sylvain Distin.

5 mins: The flag kick is headed clear by Antoine Sibierski at the near post with Agger lurking.

4 mins: The ball is played into Fernando Morientes in the box but Richard Dunne doesn't allow him to turn. The City defender does concede a corner, however.

Pre-match: Steven Gerrard is restored to the Liverpool starting XI, despite boss Rafa Benitez admitting his star midfielder needs a rest. The injured Momo Sissoko is out. Peter Crouch also comes back in for Robbie Fowler, while recent signings Jan Kromkamp and Daniel Agger both get a chance to impress with Jamie Carragher suspended and Luis Garcia dropped to the bench. City are without last week's FA Cup goal hero Micah Richards and striker Darius Vassell due to injury. Danny Mills and Trevor Sinclair therefore return to the line-up.

9 mins: The corner fails to produce anything of note, but the Reds have made a solid start here.

8 mins: Morientes flicks Crouch's header on to Kewell who has been left unmarked. However, the City defence recovers quickly and the Australian's shot is blocked for another corner.

7 mins: Gerrard's corner from the right is met by the head of Crouch but his effort is past the angle. He perhaps should have done better with that.

6 mins: Again Morientes gets the ball insde the box. This time he does turn and get a shot in but his effort is deflected behind for another corner by Sylvain Distin.

5 mins: The flag kick is headed clear by Antoine Sibierski at the near post with Agger lurking.

4 mins: The ball is played into Fernando Morientes in the box but Richard Dunne doesn't allow him to turn. The City defender does concede a corner, however.

3 mins: Liverpool are getting plenty of tackles in early on as they look to force the pace.

1 min: Harry Kewell gets down the left in space but his cross is claimed by David James.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has called on the Reds strikers to take the initiative, and start making things happen in front of goal to take the pressure off the defence and midfield.  
The former goals maestro admitted he had sympathy for the strikers in Benfica because of the lack of service they had, but feels they could do a lot more in front of goal.
  
"I feel sorry to a certain extent for the forwards as they were was no faulting the workrate of Robbie Fowler and Fernando Morientes in Lisbon, but they were starved of service," admitted Aldridge.
  
"As a forward, though, I was always told to make things happen rather than wait for things to happen.
  
"You have got to go out and create your own luck, so now is the not the time for the strikers to go into their shells.
  
"There is a lot to be positive about at present but the defence and midfield can't keep winning games on their own.
  
"They did it at Wigan, against Arsenal and again when Manchester United came to Anfield. The strikers need to pay them back big time. What better place to start than against Manchester City?
  
"We've got to take full advantage of the fact that United are playing in the Carling Cup final and close the gap on them in the table.
  
"With Robbie Fowler unable to play against his former employers, I'd like to see Peter Crouch given the nod because he will have a key role to fill in the return leg against Benfica. If Liverpool keep pumping balls into him, Benfica's keeper will give chances. Fact."

Rafael Benitez believes Djibril Cisse must improve his form and work harder if he is to earn a place in the France squad for the World Cup finals.  
Cisse was left out of the French squad for next week's friendly with Slovakia in Paris and Benitez feels the striker can give a lot more for the team, while at the same time improve his World Cup chances.
  
"If players want to play in the World Cup they need to play well for their teams and work harder," reasoned Benitez.
  
"It's a simple solution. Work hard, play more games, score goals and get your reward. It's a vicious circle. If you work hard, you can play. If you play, you can go to the World Cup.
  
"He's a player who can score goals and he has unbelievable pace. There's always a chance for him because every manager would like a player with his qualities."

Manchester City visit Anfield on Sunday with their manager Stuart Pearce labelling Liverpool as the best side in the Premiership and the main title contenders to Chelsea.  
Pearce is a great admirer of Rafael Benitez and the job he has done at Anfield and believes the Reds will win the Premiership title under the Spaniard.
  
"Liverpool are Chelsea's biggest rivals now," reasoned Pearce. "In fact, on form, they are currently the best side in the Premiership, and I include Chelsea in that.
  
"Eighteen months ago, people would have said United and Arsenal were nearest but Liverpool have now catapulted themselves into that category.
  
"People talk about the standards Liverpool set in the past but they are not too far away from that now. They are the European champions for a start and you can't do much better than that."
  
The former England hero likes the way Liverpool defend and believes his players can learn a lot from the likes of Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.
  
"You have to admire how their back four works together," added Pearce. "I watched the Manchester United game and they were so well organised defensively it was untrue. The tightness of that unit is incredible.
  
"It would be fantastic to be able to take some of my young defenders to a game at Anfield and show them how the two centre-halves in particular work together. It is a fantastic example for any young player.
  
"Anfield has traditionally been a difficult ground for anyone to go to, not just us.
  
"If we did get a result it would galvanise us, give some of the young lads a big lift in confidence and an extra sense of belief about what we have to come.
  
"There is a good feeling in our squad. We have our tails up a little bit and we are getting one or two of our senior players coming back to full fitness, which will help us.
  
"Hopefully we can put a decent run together between now and the summer and win as many games as we can."

Rafael Benitez believes a major factor behind the team's lacklusture showing in Benfica was the lack of service from wide areas to the strikers, and has told his players that this has to improve starting with the Manchester City game.  
The Liverpool manager has spoken to the players concerned about the need for better crosses for the strikers, and is confident that this will improve sooner rather than later.
  
"We didn't play well or to our level against Benfica," admitted Benitez. "I can take something positive from the fact we didn't play well, but we only conceded one goal from a free-kick.
  
"When you play a team as aggressive and with as many players in the middle as Benfica, you need to use the wide areas. We didn't play well there, that was the problem, especially for the strikers.
  
"If you don't cross properly the strikers can not head or kick the ball. I'm sure there will be a big improvement in tomorrow's game. Playing at Anfield will be totally different.
  
"We spoke to most of the players and some individuals about the mistakes we made the other day. They are disappointed and want to play as well as possible against Manchester City.
  
"You need to analyse how players work and how they play. They worked hard, but they didn't play well. For me the most important thing is whether they tried hard or not. They tried hard, but they know they need to improve.
  
"We are thinking about the next three points now. If we want to be in the top two we need to pick up as many points as we can."

Liverpool aim to bounce back from the defeat in Benfica when they return to Premiership action against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, and as always you can listen to live commentary on Liverpoolfc.tv.  
With Manchester United playing in the Carling Cup final a Liverpool win against City would see the Reds go level on points with Sir Alex Ferguson's side. However, Liverpool would stay in third place as United have a superior goal difference.
  
Manchester City are in 10th place in the Premiership and are without the injured Andy Cole, who is recovering following knee surgery.

A goal from Harry Kewell five minutes before the break has given Liverpool a deserved 1-0 half-time lead over Manchester City at Anfield.  
In what had been a fairly uneventful first-half, Liverpool enjoyed the majority of possession but failed to turn it into goals until the 40th minute.
Steven Gerrard's vision in the centre of midfield released Kewell, who raced clear down the left side before coolly slotting the ball past David James to break the deadlock.
  
Earlier the Reds suffered an injury blow when Xabi Alonso was forced to leave the field after failing to recover from a sickening clash of heads with Joey Barton.
