After yesterday's match, Rafa said: "I left Morientes on because I wanted to see him score. It is important for his confidence and I think he and Crouch play well together."

Sorry boss but I have issues with that because I want to see Cisse score and I also want to see his confidence given a lift.

Before the match the boss the boss had spoken about wanting to see Cisse improve his form - but how he can do this from the bench I'll never know.

Rumours of Cisse having a bad attitude are just an internet myth. Ask Steven Gerrard if he thinks Cisse is a muppet? A character he is, a loser he isn't.

So he waves his arms in the air and has a face on every now and then, this is because he's a winner. If that's his crime, then sentence him but get off his case.

The French striker may not be the best trainer in the world but nobody can question his determination to want to succeed at Anfield.

You'd think Cisse was a Scouser. He loves the club. He loves the area. He wants to play for Liverpool and not just any club that will pay him a wage.

He also spends a lot of his spare time watching the kids play in his local village and speaking to kids at the Liverpool academy - he has the potential to be a great ambassador for the club but sadly the club want rid of him.

Some of the comments I have read about Cisse are unfair. For some reason, if you put Cisse down you are deemed to know what you are talking about. Sadly some people don't have the guts to speak out against those who are a little overpowering.

If you visit the forums of fans sites like this you will see that for some perverted reason, that some 'fans' like to get stuck into Cisse. Criticism is fine by me, especially when it is warranted, but for some reason, Cisse has become an easy target. Why is this? Because he's our record signing? Because Ged signed him?

There's no advertising in the KopTalk Gold Club!
For me, Cisse is a European Cup winner. I'll never forget the penalty he scored in Istanbul, just like I won't forget about the other contributors including Milan Baros that was shipped off. Any player that contributed to that historic event should deserve a little more respect than your average Joe.

But just because Cisse scored a penalty - which a £14million striker should be able to do - and just because he has a natter with some kids that nobody else is really that interested in - doesn't give him any right to play in the side. Oh no. I'm definitely not saying that.

What I am saying is that when Fernando Morientes and other strikers are failing to deliver, then why the hell should Cisse not be given a decent run in the side. I firmly believe that a striker needs a decent run in the side to bed in. I think this is an area that shouldn't be rotated as much as other positions.

When Cisse returned from that horrific injury, I became frustrated at his tendency to be caught in an offside position and also his lack of defensive duties. But I believe he has improved in these areas.

I have absolutely nothing against Fernando Morientes. When we signed him I was buzzing. The last time I was that excited was probably when we signed Markus Babbel because back then, Babbel was the man and we landed his signature. That to me was a massive signing but the signing of Morientes, the Real Madrid hitman was much more exciting.

But Morientes is not delivering. I also believe that he's not making a great contribution to the rest of the team unlike Crouch for example who was superb yesterday.

Stick Morientes on the bench and make him watch twenty consecutive games that Cisse starts. Cisse has a point to prove - as a striker and not a winger I may add - but sadly, his face doesn't fit and Rafa wants shot of him.

I believe that those above Rafa see Cisse as a possible cash generator in terms of his sell on fee. But keeping him on the bench will see that fee decrease and decrease.

You don't become a rubbish player overnight. The likes of Morientes and Cisse have to adapt to a new country and a new style of football. Morientes is far more experienced and older so I would have expected him to cope with it where as Cisse was plucked from Auxerre at a much younger age. Not only that but he sustained and battled a career threatening injury.

In the interests of fairness I believe Morientes has had a decent chance now so come on Rafa, give Cisse a decent run. You say you want him to improve his form, well he can't do that from the bench.

Liverpool have let in one more goal than Chelsea in the league but they've scored 21 more goals than us. When you look at the stats, Cisse is the club's leading scorer from the strikers. He's scored double what Morientes has achieved this season and he's played a lot less yet he still isn't used.

It's no good giving him 5 minutes here and a start there. Like Morientes, he needs an arm round him and a show of confidence. It's not working with Morientes so switch things up.

Now I'm not saying that Cisse is the answer. I'm not saying that Cisse is the new Ian Rush. I'm not saying that Cisse is the best thing since sliced bread.

What I am saying is that Cisse deserves a bloody game, even if it's just to keep his valuation up for when they decide to cash in.

I put a poll on the site last night asking who you would pick between Morientes and Cisse if you had to choose one of them and so far, 66% have voted in favour of Cisse. I thought I'd be amongst the minority but it would seem that I'm not.

I don't want to hear about Cisse's miss at Old Trafford. I'll put that down to a lack of confidence and sharpness. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to nail him to the goalposts just like the next Red but right now, looking at the present form of our strikers, I'd give Djibs a regular starting berth.

Holland coach Marco van Basten has hit out at Jan Kromkamp for moving to Liverpool.

The former Milan striker is convinced that the defender has made some bad career choices since breaking into the Dutch national team.

The 25-year-old quit Villarreal for Anfield, in a swap deal that took Josemi to Spain, after enduring a difficult time in La Liga.

Kromkamp played in midfield during the win over Manchester City on Sunday but is struggling to nail down a regular place in the European champions' line-up.

"It is annoying that Kromkamp, who is a good player, made the wrong choices for his career," van Basten told ANP.

"It is sad when someone throws away his own chances and also doesn't help us.

"It seems to us that Jan is more busy with peripheral events.

"Jan has to make choices. I have no influence on that but, if he wanted my advice, that was possible."

Van Basten has overlooked the wing back for the friendly with Ecuador and it is believed he is upset with the player for leaving AZ Alkmaar in the first place, for Villarreal last year.

RELIVE ISTANBUL WITH GARY MAC AND RUSHIE

Two of Liverpool's all-time greats are set to star in Anfield's next great double.
Gary McAllister and Ian Rush are the main attractions at the next two Champions' League dinners organised by Heathcotes at Anfield.

Tickets for the evenings on March 10th and March 18th are already selling fast.

All of the previous 13 such dinners have been sell-outs with a chance to reminisce the best footage from last May's dramatic European Cup win in Istanbul and the opportunity to quiz some of the Reds' Euro heroes.

Gary McAllister, who starred in Liverpool's 2001 UEFA Cup triumph over Alaves, will be present at the March 10th event. Rush, Anfield's all-time record goalscorer, will be reliving the drama of Istanbul and sharing memories from his own European Cup victory in 1984 on March 18th.

Fans attending the evenings - which cost £65 per person - also enjoy a four course dinner and a commemorative photograph with the Champions League trophy.

Each of the evenings also sees a raffle in aid of various local charities.

For more information about forthcoming dinners call Heathcotes at Anfield on 0151 263 7744.

RAFA BACKING NANDO TO START SCORING

Rafael Benitez has stressed the only way for Fernando Morientes to emerge from his barren spell in front of goal is by staying on the pitch.
The Reds' boss substituted man-of-the-match Peter Crouch against Manchester City on Saturday and kept Morientes on the field in the hope of seeing him net his first goal in twelve games for the club.

In the end Harry Kewell's first half strike was the only difference between the two sides but Benitez is remaining steadfast in his belief that Morientes will eventually prove his critics wrong.

"He cannot solve the problem when he is sitting on the bench," said the Liverpool manager.

"I was hoping to see Morientes score, Crouch managed to get one in the cup against Manchester United and it would have been good for Fernando to also get on the scoresheet.

"It would have given him more confidence. But if you want to see your strikers scoring goals you cannot leave them out.

"If you want to support one player then you need to keep him on the pitch, taking him off does not achieve anything.

"Fernando is a good finisher. His career figures show that. He has scored many goals wherever he has played.

"Now he needs more confidence. And if you want to give him that then he needs to play, he cannot change the situation when he is not on the pitch."

LFC.TV VISITORS HELP CARRA LAND FA AWARD

Liverpoolfc.tv visitors can today give themselves a proud pat on the back after the FA website announced that Jamie Carragher has been named the FA Cup Player of the 5th Round.
The England defender put in a typically massive performance at Anfield as the Reds knocked Manchester United out of the cup and his display didn't go unnoticed with the FA's pannel of judges.

Alongside Manchester City's Micah Richards, Colchester's Wayne Brown, Middlesbrough's Yakubu and Birmingham City keeper Maik Taylor, Carragher was shortlisted for public vote.

However, after a few days of voting, Micah Richards appeared to be romping to victory. When Liverpoolfc.tv spotted Carragher was trailing the Man City youngster with just 15% of the total vote to Richards' 41%, we felt it was time for a change.

A news story asking for fans to visit the FA website and vote for Carragher was immediately placed on the homepage of the site and remained the main story for over an hour.

Within two hours, Carragher had not just overtaken Richards but opend up a 20% lead. Within 24 hours, Carragher had over 50% of the total vote before finally storming to victory with 59% compared to 20% for Richards.

The Liverpool defender's success is more than a token gesture however. As with all the individual winners of each FA Cup Player of the Round votes, Carragher is guaranteed attendance at The FA Cup final and a half-time introduction to the crowd. More importantly however for a player who hopes to be at the final himself as a player, Jamie also wins £1,000 worth of UMBRO football kit for a local school, club or organisation of his choice.

So if you were one of the Liverpool fans who saw this story on this website or any other forum and took the time out to vote for Carragher, well done - you've just helped a team of kids win £1,000 of football kit. Good work Reds!

RIISE: MORE GOALS COULD PROVE CRUCIAL

John Arne Riise believes the race for second place in the Premiership could ultimately be decided by goal difference this season.
Liverpool are level with Manchester United on 54 points after 27 games, but are below Alex Ferguson's men in the table as a result of their inferior goal difference.

United have netted nine more goals than the Reds so far this season and Riise insists improving our tally could prove to be crucial come the end of the campaign.

"It could go right to the wire and that's why we'd like to score goals to put more pressure on them," said Riise.

"We'll see if United slip up or not or whether we score more in the remaining games. It's going to be an exciting finish for second.

"You can see defensively we're very strong. There are clean sheets nearly every game. As soon as we start scoring more we'll be on fire.

"We'll take 1-0 wins and three points. You never know at 1-0. It only needs a set-piece or lack of concentration and the ball's in your own net. But we proved defensively we're very strong. We're not conceding many goals. We'd just like to score more to kill off games."
