Well, maybe not everyone would agree with this. Certainly not inside Old Trafford or Goodison Park, but Rafa Benitez's charges were the clear winner in a poll carried out by Nuts magazine.
When asked who was their favourite Premiership side, other than the one you support (for those who's favourite's reside in the top-flight), 15% plumped for Liverpool.
During Kevin Keegan's time at St James' Park, Newcastle were the undisputed 'People's Champions' and this feeling carried on while the 'Queen Mother' of English Football Alan Shearer tried in vain to bring silverware to the North East.
They have slipped down to fourth place now, with West Ham United and Wigan winning fans with their gutsy and entertaining style last season.
"Liverpool have provided a huge amount of entertainment, over the last year or so starting with the Champions League win and culminating in the stunning Steven Gerrard goal in the F.A. Cup Final," Nuts Sports Editor Gershon Portnoi said.
"I think The Toon's popularity may have taken a dip during Graeme Souness' time at the helm. It's great to see Wigan and West Ham up there. Everyone loves an underdog and they certainly entertained and gave many of the bigger clubs a scare last season."
For years, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United were the least popular side with other fans, but it seems now they have been starved of a championship for three years, some neutrals would like them to be the ones to dethrone Chelsea this year, as they finish in the top half of the table.
It was maybe not surprising that Chelsea and Arsenal are the least admired of the other sides, with their foreign managers as unpopular around the country, as they are heralded back on home soil.
Surprisingly, Aston Villa finished bottom of the pile with neutrals seemingly as bored with the dull football and underachievement at Villa Park as the locals have been.
