October 30, 2026 — As the lanterns flicker to life, the night parade begins. Lantern Keepers brings players into a Japanese yokai fantasy where mischievous spirits and formidable Yokai Kings advance along winding mountain paths. Standing between them and the lantern gate is a carefully arranged defense of fire, water, lightning, frost and poison. Every lantern placed is a choice about how to hold the road when the next wave arrives.
The single-player tower defense game combines the satisfaction of planning a formation with the spectacle of elemental chain reactions. Players build and upgrade their lanterns, adapt to different threats and call on active abilities when their defenses come under pressure. Beyond each battle, relics and permanent talents provide new opportunities to develop a strategy and return with a stronger plan.
Five lanterns and a defense worth planning
Each of the five lantern types contributes to the formation in a different way. Fire brings burning damage, water prepares targets for follow-up reactions, lightning punishes clustered opponents, frost helps control the advance and poison builds damage over time. Their value changes with the lanterns around them. A water lantern can set up several different attacks, while the position of a damage dealer determines whether it can take advantage of that preparation.
The challenge is to make the available positions work together. A strong opening formation may thin the first wave, but gaps further along the path can leave the gate exposed. Players must weigh concentrated firepower against wider coverage, decide where control will be most useful and choose which lanterns deserve the next upgrade. Watching a formation hold gives each earlier decision a visible result.
Plan the path and chain the elements

Freeze the advance
Water followed by frost triggers Freeze, stopping vulnerable yokai in place and opening a window for the rest of the defense to attack. It is a practical way to gain time when a group threatens to push beyond the main formation. Frozen targets are also vulnerable to Shatter when struck by fire, connecting crowd control to a damaging follow-up. Planning around these interactions gives a defensive position more than one purpose.

Send lightning through the crowd
Water and lightning trigger Electrify, allowing an electrical attack to jump through nearby targets. A group advancing together becomes an opportunity for a well-placed pairing. Rather than treating each lantern as an isolated source of damage, players can arrange a sequence in which one prepares the road for the next. The spectacle of a chain of sparks is the visible payoff for getting that sequence right.
Ignite the night and meet the parade

Turn poison into an explosive opening
Poison creates a different kind of pressure. It accumulates on targets, rewarding a defense that keeps applying it as yokai move along the path. Follow poison with fire to trigger Ignite and release a concentrated burst around the target. Poison Burst adds another interaction when poisoned yokai fall. Together, these options let players explore sustained damage, controlled bursts and formations that connect both approaches.
Meet the creatures of the night parade
Leaf-headed imps, traveling frog spirits and fluttering night creatures give the parade an expressive personality. Their playful appearance sits alongside an increasingly demanding battlefield. Fast arrivals can test the back of the formation, airborne threats demand appropriate coverage and dangerous elites can disrupt a plan that worked against ordinary waves.
Yokai Kings bring a larger test. These imposing opponents ask players to consider the strength of the whole defense, from damage and control to the timing of active abilities. A crowded path can force a difficult decision: commit an ability to regain control now, or preserve it for the next threat. Success depends on recognizing what the formation needs while the battle is still unfolding.

Build strength beyond the battlefield
Relics and permanent talent upgrades carry progression between battles. Collecting and equipping relics adds passive benefits, while talents give players lasting improvements to support their defenses. These systems extend the decisions made along the path: a preferred combination can become the foundation of a broader build, supported by upgrades chosen to help it perform.
Campaign progression gives those choices a continuing purpose. New encounters encourage players to revisit coverage, experiment with elemental pairings and decide where to invest next. A difficult attempt can reveal a weak position or an ability used too early; the next run offers a chance to correct it. Lantern Keepers builds its appeal around that cycle of preparation, reaction and improvement, with the lantern gate as the goal that connects every battle.
