Arsenal have "no intention" of selling Cesc Fabregas and rejected an official offer from Barcelona last night, they confirmed today in an official statement.
The director general of the La Liga champions, Joan Oliver, stated this morning that a written bid had been submitted to the Gunners for their £80 million rated star. This approach has been firmly rebuffed and the club expected its skipper to honour his contract that runs until 2015.
Fabregas is understood to have told manager Arsene Wenger before meeting up with the Spain World Cup squad a fortnight ago of his intention to leave.
The statement, released this afternoon on the official Arsenal website, re-iterated that the Emirates outfit intended to reject the Catalans' advances.
It said:"Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is under contract with the club until the summer of 2015. He is a highly valued member of the team and part of our future plans.
"We have followed recent speculation linking Cesc with a move away from the Club but as there has never been any official approach for him, only two informal exchanges, in which we made it abundantly clear that we have no interest in transferring Cesc, we have refrained from publicly passing comment. However, yesterday evening we received an offer from Barcelona for Cesc and in response, we immediately and resolutely told them once again that we have no intention of selling our captain.
