Valencia defeats Alzira 1-0 in friendly match

Valencia played it's final match of the season on Friday against Tercera Division side Alzira, winning 1-0 at the Luis Suner Pico. The friendly was played in honor of Alzira's youth football teams.

Considering it was a friendly match after a long, hard season for both teams, it lacked intensity throughout. VCF played five players from their academy, including left winger Juan Bernat (VCF Mestalla/Juvenil A), right winger Roberto Ibanez (VCF Mestalla/Juvenil A), central midfielder Pedro Santos (Juvenil A), striker Juan Delgado (Juvenil A/Juvenil B), and central defender Daniel Navarro (Cadete B).

The best chance of the first half came when striker Edu Silva hammered a shot off of Miguel Angel Moya's crossbar.

Valencia's best two chances came from a header from defender Marius Stankevicius, and a long range shot from young midfielder Bernat.

Delgado also had a header on goal, but the Spain U-17 striker's effort was saved by Pociello.

The second half was more of the same, but VCF did manage to find a late winner. Substitutes Chori Dominguez and Jeremy Mathieu combined for the winning goal, with the Argentine's pass finding the Frenchman, who blasted a powerful shot past the Alzira goalkeeper in the 87th minute.

Valencia open talks with Lorient for striker Kevin Gameiro

The France international is widely expected to move to a bigger club this summer and could be on his way to Spain

Prolific attacker Kevin Gameiro appears to be on his way out of Ligue 1 outfit Lorient this summer as La Liga side Valencia have opened talks with the French club to discuss a possible transfer, RMC reports.

The Mestalla club are looking for a new striker to partner Roberto Soldado up front next season, and consider the 24-year-old to be the perfect addition to their front line.

The Spanish outfit were close to signing Gameiro in the January transfer window, but eventually refused to meet Lorient's €10 million asking price.

However, they are still keen to lure the striker to the Primera Division and have now recommenced negotiations.

Gameiro started his professional career with Strasbourg before joining Lorient in the summer of 2008, and there the France international has developed into the Ligue 1 side's undisputed star player.

He has also been linked with clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Villarreal in the past couple of months, but Valencia now appear to be sitting in pole position to secure his services.

Del Horno Searching For An Exit

He has started his injury rehabilitation, doesn’t figure in Emery’s plans and doesn’t rule out terminating his contract.

Asier del Horno is already back at Paterna. One month after his second operation on his left Achilles tendon, and after completing his loan spell with Levante, the fullback works everyday with the Valencia physiotherapists. His aim is to be fit and in the market at the end of August or at the start of September, with time to find a new club. There is no doubt about it, and Emery himself has informed him; he is not part of the coach’s plans for next season.

With only one year left on his contract, the footballer from Gallarta won’t leave for a lot of money. Therefore, there are only two options on the table. One is to leave, and Valencia won’t ask for more than one or two million euros. The other, if both parties agree, is to terminate his contract. Asier isn’t ruling out this option.

Del Horno, who in 2010/11 made 24 apperances for Levante, scoring two goals, began his recuperation last week. The first stage of rehabilitation is limited to physiotherapy, work in the gym, and swimming. He will continue to do so until July, and then, after a meeting with his surgeon, Mikel Sánchez, he will return to the pitch.

Valencia set to make €4 million profit for 2010/2011 financial year

In the past two years, president Manuel Llorente, along with vice president Javier Gomez, have led a staggering turnaround at Valencia, taking the club from the verge of bankruptcy to profitability.

It was just over two years ago when it was announced the club was ending the 2008/2009 financial year with a loss of €72 million. The year before that the club had lost €57 million. This was during the reign of Juan Soler and Vicente Soriano (as well as the still confusing involvement of Dalport Investments).

Llorente took over the club in June 2009, and since then, the club's debt was gone from €547 million to €370 million.

Not only that, but it seems that the club will make a profit this financial year (2010/2011), reaching a surplus of €4 million.

The club has been able to do this mainly through selling big name players (David Villa and David Silva, amongst others), but also by reducing the overall costs of running the club, from €122 million per season to €78 million per season.

And while all of this has been going on, VCF has managed back-to-back third place finishes in the league.

Mallorca offered Maduro, Chori and Alcácer

Serra Ferrer is looking to take the players on a 2 year loan but Braulio wants to sell.

Braulio Vazquez met with Mallorca president Serra Ferrer last Monday and offered him three Valencia players, Hedwiges Maduro, Chori Dominguez and Paco Alcácer. The meeting didn’t go smoothly however, as Ferrer asked to loan the players for 2 seasons, Braulio however said that Valencia are looking to sell to pay off a debt of around 4 Million euros.

The two parties also discussed possible moves for Chori Castro and Ivan Ramis to Valencia. Chori has been linked with Valencia since January after an impressive first half of last season before a disappointing second half. Ramis however is an option for the center back position, Valencia have two other options for this position and if they fail to sign one of the two Ramis will be signed.

Chori Dominguez is a player who hasn’t had a good relationship with Unai Emery and is looking for a season loan deal hoping that when he returns Emery will no longer be the coach at Valencia, a transfer for him could get Valencia something around 1 Million euro. Maduro is a more appealing option for Mallorca as he would be a cheaper option for the islanders as he has only a year remaining in his contract. Despite being one of the promising prospects at Valencia, Paco Alcácer failed to get a single minute at the league last season and the idea is for him to go out on loan to get some minutes.

Nacho Gonzalez was also offered to Mallorca but the problem is that he failed to get minutes last season due to an injury.

Málaga Turn Their Attention To Isc

The player has a buyout clause of 6 million euros.

With the Joaquín deal still not concluded, Málaga’s president Abdullah Al-Thani has set his sights on Valencia’s youth player Isco Alarcón. The interest started a few days ago after Isco led the u19 national team to the European Championship.

Málaga are looking to sign homegrown players and although Isco spent his whole youth career at Valencia he fits the profile as his hometown is Benalmádena which is situated 10km away from Málaga. Isco is also different than the other two players Málaga has signed at this stage of the market (Mathijsen and Van Nistelrooy) as both are experienced players and have played in an international level.  However, Valencia have refused to negotiate the sale of their wonderkid so the only option available is to pay the player’s buyout clause which is around 6 Million euros.

Isco who currently is spending his holiday in Riviera Maya, Mexico, remains quiet for now. He has stated previously however that he’s comfortable at Valencia so a move back home looks complicated.

Betis Ask About Navarro And Dealbert

The Valencia centre backs are liked by the side from Sevilla, who return to the top flight this season.

Braulio Vázquez has the whole defensive line planned for next season, in terms of new arricals and exits.  After the presentation of Adil Rami, the technical secretary is looking for a partner for him.  At the same time, he has been receiving calls, from clubs such as Betis, asking about players at the team.  That is the case of David Navarro and Ángel Dealbert.  The Andalucían side who have just been promoted, have contacted Braulio, asking about the player’s situations.

Betis intend to fish some players from some of the bigger teams who don’t have a guaranteed future.  Unai Emery told David Navarro that it would be better if he looked for a new club, prompting an interest from Betis.  They aren’t the only club interested in the Valencian.  Neuchatel from Switzerland are also following the situation, but at the moment, the player wants to continue playing for Valencia.

The same has happened with Dealbert, a footballer that Betis would like to have in their ranks ahead of next season.  However, Dealbert’s future seems more certain that Navarro’s.  Emery is willing to use him next season, and has used him as an example of a good professional on more than one occasion.

You’re arriving to Valencia as a “working-class” footballer…
When I was an amateur player at Frejus I was working for the council, fixing cars.  I was a mechanic for three years.  I also had a job destroying documents and I was cleaning the city.  My job was to clean the graffiti off the streets.  I had a workmate that was from Lille and  I think that it was destiny because I ended up playing there.
How did you start playing football?
I used to play as a striker at Frejus because I was physically very strong.  Six months before going to Lille, a teammate who was a centre back got seriously injured and I ended up taking his spot in defence, and I’ve remained as a centre back until now.
You became a professional at 21, and now you’re 25 and at Valencia…
It has been a meteoric rise.  In eight months I went from working for the council to making my debut in Ligue 1, and when I reached just 15 appearances for Lille I was called up to the French national side and made my debut.  Then there were goals, Europa League games, I became a regular starter with France and now I’ve moved to Valencia.  The dream continues and I never want to wake up from it.
And the start didn’t go well either…
(Laughs) Yes, because I bought myself a new car and asked for credit in order to pay for it over seven years.  One month later I had a serious accident with some friends, and the next morning I had lost everything: the credit, the car.  I was in ruins.  But, it all sorted itself out quickly and my club received a letter about me doing a trial with Lille for a week.  It was all good until today, and now I’m at Mestalla.  A dream.
Your parents are Moroccan, you were born in Corsica, and ended up playing for France…
It’s strange, eh?  But my life hasn’t been exactly normal.
How was living in Corsica?
I was living there for six years.  I was small, but it was boring.  I haven’t returned there (laughs).
Napoleón was from there.  Do you want to conquer the world?
(Laughs) We both have a winning mentality.  I will try to do what is expected of me and will do all I can to conquer many things with Valencia.
What is the toughest thing about being a professional footballer?
I need to be more aware of tactics, and I need more experience.  My whole family are very athletic, and that helped me to move forward.
Have you followed Valencia much to see the differences with French football?
I haven’t needed to watch much over the last six months because I already played against them in the Europa League with Lille, and I realised just how technical they were.  Here, football is much more technical and tactical.
You’ve just finished a brilliant season at Lille…
I will never forget it.  It has been like a movie.  We hadn’t played in the Champions League in 2009 because we lost our final game against Lorient.  We recovered from that blow and the next year we won the league and the cup.  What gave me the most pleasure is that we did it with the same players as four years ago.  There was great spirit in the dressing room.
Why did you decide to come to Valencia in December?
When I met Braulio, Garrido and the president, I saw that they are honest people.  My family is like that.  I’m not moving for the money.  I’m looking at other things.  I could connect with the men in charge.  I’m moving for sentiment and for ambition.  I didn’t doubt it, and it was easy to sign with Valencia.
Was it difficult to tell Lille in December that you’re going?
A little, yes, because the people and the fans were thinking that I was going to play less because I had signed for another team, but I am happy because I played every game and I was professional.
Under Rudi García at Lille, you played in a 4-3-3.  Unai wants to implement this system, but he thinks the side suffers defensively.  Do you know how it’s done?
We played like that for a long time, we had clear instructions from the coach.  Everyone can attack, but Chedjou and I (the centre backs), and Mavuba in the midfield; we were the only ones who had to keep the team’s shape, defend a lot and organise.
You’re going to meet up with Ricardo Costa again.  He said that you are a brilliant signing…
(Laughs) He’s very friendly.  The truth is that it’s going to be a little strange seeing him again, but we were a great partnership when we played together, and we understood each other well at Lille.  I’m eager to get started.
From the days of Ayala, Pellegrino and Djukic, Valencia have been searching for a defensive pillar.  Will it be Adil Rami?
I’m going to try to do well.  It’s an honour to form a part of this club’s history and that I can be compared to such great players.  I am competitive and ambitious.  I have a lot of self confidence and I’m going to try to play to the level that is expected of me.
What targets have been laid out?
That I integrate into the team well.  It’s the first time that I’ve left my country and then, I want to play well defensively, and we’ll see where that takes me.
You have been names as France’s sexiest player to years running.  Will you compete with Cristiano?
(Joking) Can you not see?  Look at me!  In 2008 and 2009 they chose me as the most handsome in France!  I’ll stick with my work on the pitch and compete with Cristiano there.

Parejo: Valencia Is A Great Step Forward

Dani Parejo says that coming to Valencia is “a nice challenge.”

Dani ParejoDani Parejo, Spanish U21 international, recognised that signing for Valencia is “a great step forward,” in his career, and showed his excitement at the prospect of beginning the season with a team that will play in the Champions League.

“Valencia is a great team and I’m very happy to have completed my move,” he stated at the Viborg Stadium after taking part in Spain’s victory over the Czech Republic.

“Ir’s a great step forward for my career.  A nice challenge.  I hope that everything goes well and that I join up with the team after the holidays.  I’m going to a Champions League team,” he said.

Playing in the Champions League is one of the things that attracted Parejo the most.  “Any player would like to play in what is considered as the top competition.  I’m young, I’m happy, and I’m looking forward to getting started,” stated the young Madrileño.

“I have spoken with Rober (Soldado) about the team, and with Mata.  He has told me good things about everything at Valencia,” he pointed out.

Braulio: We Do Not Want To Sell Banega

Braulio Vázquez assures everyone that there are no midfielders like the Argentine on the market.

El Valencia no quiere vender a Éver Banega. Valencia do not want to sell Éver Banega.  Braulio stated yesterday, on Italian radio, that the Mestalla club have no intentions of selling the Argentine.  He confessed on the radio show that it is difficult to find midfielders like Banega in the transfer market.  The club have declared the player “not for sale,” despite the signing of Dani Parejo.

Two Italian teams and an English team have become interested in signing the player, and Braulio even admitted this on the radio show.  “It’s true that there are two Italian clubs that have asked us about Banega’s situation, and an English team as well, but we do not want to sell him.”  In Italy, they have been talking about prices of between €10m and €15m for the player, but Valencia know that his price could increase after the Copa América with Argentina.  It appears that Inter and Napoli scouts will be at the tournament, and they are said to be the two clubs that are most interested in the player.

Apart from the price, Valencia also realise that there are very few players with Banega’s characteristics. “There are very few midfielders like Banega in the world, so Valencia do not want to sell him,” pointed out Braulio, who stressed that “finding a midfielder like Banega or Xavi is very difficult.”  On being questioned if Valencia would accept an offer of €15m for him, Braulio responded saying, “At the moment, it’s difficult.  And surely he’ll be worth more than that when the Copa América has finished.”

I want to stay with Valencia for many more years - Ever Banega

The Argentina international has been linked with a move to Inter, but has no intention of leaving the Mestalla and has pledged the next period of his career to the club

Midfielder Ever Banega has revealed that he is eager to remain with La Liga outfit Valencia for "many more years", despite speculation of a move away from the Mestalla.

The Argentina international has reportedly caught the attention of Italian giants Inter, but the Giuseppe Meazza side have yet to make a formal approach. Nevertheless, it seems that Banega has no intention of leaving the Champions League qualifiers.

"I want to stay with Valencia for many more years. I have always been very happy with the club and the people here," he stated, according to Marca.

The 22-year-old joined Valencia from Boca Juniors in January 2008 and has since made well over 75 official appearances for the Primera Division side. His current contract runs until the summer of 2013.
