Javier Mascherano has to stay

JAVIER Mascherano had another great game against City on Sunday and was again one of Liverpool's better players.

Ever since he came to Anfield he has done a brilliant job in front of the back four and I've got no doubt that every Liverpool supporter wants to see him stay at the club.

Steven Gerrard must think highly of him as well because when Mascherano is in the team he is given the freedom to go and express himself.

It's no coincidence that Gerrard has scored so many goals in the past couple of months with Mascherano playing alongside him.

Compare that with Gerrard's situation with England where he plays alongside Frank Lampard but doesn't have the same freedom and is therefore restricted from being as effective as he can be.

Mascherano reminds me of Didi Hamann and Ronnie Whelan in that he does a lot of the dog work that gives other players the licence to attack.

It is a role which he performs brilliantly and it would be really disappointing if his stay at Anfield was not made permanent.

祖雲達斯冬季引援的目标已经逐渐清晰起来：林帕特的谈判无果而终、范德華特也许要等到夏季才能重新开始谈判，但利物浦的施素高却距离阿尔卑球场越来越近了。一笔英镑外加薛比拿(Jonathan Zebina)，雲利亞里已经基本锁定了施素高。
　　
　　利物浦队给施素高的标价是900万英镑，不过祖雲達斯有望以700万英镑将他拿下。当然，如果雲利亞里决心将薛比拿也一并交易出去的话,施素高的最终价格会更低，很可能在500万英镑以下。
　　
　　雲利亞里已经证实了祖雲達斯对于施素高的渴望。事实上，夏季的时候祖雲達斯刚刚升级，在增强队伍的人员计划中就有施素高的名字。那时，施素高在安菲尔德已经失去了主力位置，只能看着半途而来的阿根廷人馬斯查蘭奴在自己熟悉的位置上打拼。但志在夺冠的賓尼迪斯没有舍得放弃施素高，最终马里人与球队签署了一份新合同，拒绝了祖雲達斯的邀请。
　　
　　被雲利亞里点名为“2008年第一人”，施素高的心也在动摇。对于马里人来说，去祖雲達斯是一个契机，目前，祖雲達斯中场的状况不佳，阿米朗和迪亚高逐渐失去了信任，斑马继续一名新的中场队员来稳定中圈地带。
　　
　　施素高在利物浦失去主力，很大一部分原因在于他的进攻能力低下，常常有一些离谱的表现。但是在防守中，施素高的能力得到了英超的认可。雲利亞里或许看重的就是马里人在防守上的特点，在失去了韋拉和埃馬遜两道屏障之后，施素高有望成为斑马军新的中场屏障。而施素高一旦确定加盟，那么迪亚高和阿米朗中至少有一人可能会离开祖雲達斯。

MASCHERANO: WE CAN WIN THE TITLE

  Javier Mascherano claims Liverpool can still win the Premier League title this season.  
Prior to Wednesday evening's meeting with Wigan Athletic at Anfield the Reds are 13 points behind leaders Arsenal but have two games in hand on the Gunners.
  
The Argentine ace remains confident Liverpool have the quality to get back into the title race and really put the pressure on the front runners.
  
"We can still win the Premier League," insists Mascherano. "But we can't keep looking at the table.
  
"We've got a game coming up against Wigan and we just have to win our next two or three games. If we do that, we will be right up there, because if you win three or four games consecutively, it means you can be closer to the top of the table.
  
"Now we just have to do our best against Wigan and try and get those three points.
  
"We deserved to win at City. We had a lot of chances, but that's what football is like. You need to score to win and we couldn't score. It's a big disappointment for us. But I don't think we need to do much more.
  
"We have been scoring a lot of goals in the last few games. The most important thing is that, although we couldn't score, we created a lot of chances.
  
"If we keep playing like we did at City, then I think we will win a lot of games. We played well and we just have to keep on doing as we have been."
