Rafael Benitez says he loves the experience of the Merseyside derby and wants a victory to make the fans happy.  
The Liverpool manager believes the derby is a special occasion and wants his team to win and keep up the pressure on Manchester United in the race for second place.
  
"I enjoy the derby and it is a fantastic and amazing occasion, and we want to win for our supporters," enthused Benitez.
  
"We know if we can win it will make the people happy and we have confidence and we are scoring goals. Everton are also playing well and it will be a tough game as they have a good manager in David Moyes who is doing a good job.
  
"We must work really hard and keep up the pressure on Manchester United and we need to win on our home ground."

Liverpoolfc.tv: Rafa, first of all your reaction to the FA Cup draw and it's Chelsea again?
  
Rafael Benitez: If you are winning games then it's normal you will meet the best teams towards the end of the competition. I think it will be a difficult game for both teams.
  
We've played Chelsea four times already this season, do you think it's a case that both teams know each other so well it will be a tight game?
  
When you play a cup tie it's always different. I think it will be a very difficult game but I also think we will have our chances for winning.
  
We beat Chelsea in last season's Champions League semi-final so there's no reason why we can't beat them again is there?
  
For sure. They are a good team but we have confidence and it's a cup tie and anything can happen.
  
It was some start at Birmingham wasn't it, 2-0 up after four minutes?
  
It was the best start for us after four minutes in the FA Cup. It was really important to start well and those two goals gave us a lot of confidence.
  
You always remained confident the strikers would start scoring goals, what has changed if anything that they are scoring regularly now, is it confidence?
  
Maybe because we haven't changed a lot of things in the training sessions. We prepare the same for every game but now the strikers are scoring goals and maybe they will have more confidence.
  
What a return for Momo Sissoko, having a hand in both opening goals.
  
It was important for us to see Momo back. He was involved in the opening two goals and it was really important also for him.
  
How pleasing was it to see Momo back on the field, especially as some people said he wouldn't play again this season?
  
I was delighted. Having watched him in training I knew he would be ready to play. Before this game people were talking about his future and I was really disappointed by that. It was fantastic for us to see him playing. He wanted to play and he gives us the energy and the intensity we are always looking for.
  
He had to play with some protective glasses like Edgar Davids at Tottenham, didn't they steam up in the first half at one point?
  
Yeah he had some problems with this but you could see the character of the player as he decided to play on without the glasses. We need to protect him for the next games.
  
How was he at the end of the game, I bet he was over the moon?
  
Yeah for sure he was really happy. People said he wouldn't play again this season but he is and he will enjoy this situation.
  
Next up is the small matter of a Merseyside derby against Everton, do you enjoy these games as a manager?
  
Yeah these games are really good and the atmosphere is fantastic. As a manager you always like to play games with this atmosphere and it will be better for us because we are playing at Anfield.
  
What do you think makes the Merseyside derby so special for you?
  
Here is a little bit different to Spain and it's not really like Barcelona v Real Madrid but more like Betis against Seville, because the people are from the same town and they see each other every day. I think it will be a fantastic game.
  
Everton are on a good run of form at the moment, how difficult do you expect this game to be?
  
They will have confidence but we are also playing well. I think it will be a good game and we will hopefully see some good goals.
  
Of course we beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park back in December, which was an excellent performance wasn't it?
  
Yeah, we were better than them. We played well and scored good goals and they had problems. Now they are playing well and I think this will be a different game.
  
Robbie Fowler scored for the reserves on Monday night, how is his fitness at the moment?
  
He is improving. You can not say he's 100 per cent fit but he's improving every week and enjoying the situation, and he's another possibility we have for this game up front.

　　歷史交鋒成績中，在安菲爾德，利物浦取得36勝27平23負的成績。利物浦隊的謝拉特期待能成為自從科拿1996年11月以來第一名在打比戰中進球的紅軍球員。紅軍大將科維爾代表利物浦隊的射進的第一個進球，犧牲品就是愛華頓。

記者王康寧報道 本尼蒂斯或許根本沒有必要在賽前抱怨“賽程過密可能導致球員受傷”，正是借著上周三和周日相繼大勝富咸和紐卡素的迅猛勢頭，紅軍在本周二做客聖安德魯斯球場的足總杯1/4決賽中，更加瘋狂地7比0狂掃伯明翰，不僅取得了愛斯賓奴接手球隊兩年來的最大勝仗，也讓紅軍歷史上第22次挺進足總杯四強。

　　想在杯賽取得大勝本就不易，何況是在1/4決賽階段───自從愛華頓在1930/1931賽季9比1掃平索斯波特以來，這還是第一次在足總杯進入八強之後出現過一方淨勝7球的情況。對於紅軍自己，這場勝利也是俱樂部歷史上最好的足總杯做客成績，不過在所有客場比分紀錄當中，7比0只能排在第二。2000年11月的聯賽杯上，紅軍曾經8比0客場痛擊斯托克城。

　　更讓本尼蒂斯感到振奮的是，曾經深深困擾紅軍的進球問題如今已經煙消雲散。加上本周二一戰，他們已經在短短7天的三場比賽中打進了15球，而此前的15個進球則讓他們用了整整4個月、16場比賽，其中在主場迎戰富咸前的10場比賽中，紅軍更是只有可怜的5個進球。用“否極泰來”形容眼下的這一變化，真是再合適不過，只不過“球荒”驟變“球災”的副作用是，對手伯明翰的主教練布魯斯賽後不得不在警察的護送下離開球場。

　　“我從來沒有對我們的前鋒失去信心”，過去3場紅軍鋒線總共打進9球，周二比賽中克勞奇(2球)、莫里恩特斯和施斯都有貢獻，就連杯賽沒資格出場的科拿也在本周一的預備隊比賽中進球，主教練本尼蒂斯的心情自然不錯，“我們也試過一場比賽射門30次就是不進球，而今天只要我們起腳就有收獲，這就是我常說的運氣，而前鋒最需要的就是運氣。”

　　運氣當然是一方面因素，不過也必須承認，紅軍在過去這3場比賽介竟對手實在不構成真正威脅：聯賽16次做客3平13負的富咸就是一只不折不扣的“客場蟲”﹔外強中干的紐卡素一碰上真正的強隊就會露出“阿斗”本色﹔至於伯明翰，即使忽視其隊中不下9名絕對主力因傷缺陣的事實，這支球隊的糟糕防守也讓主教練布魯斯不得不派上自己的兒子(阿歷克斯﹒布魯斯)，甚至如果規則允許的話，這位前曼聯隊長、功勛後衛也會披掛出場，而效果只會更好不會變差。

　　對手的嬴弱使得紅軍取得了近5場比賽以來的第一個“清白”，而這也是球隊本賽季至今第30場一球不失───俱樂部歷史上曾經只有6個賽季達到這一水准，而他們上一次“達標”還是在22年前。更多的收獲在於，西索科和里塞這兩名老傷員在比賽中意外復出，前者開賽55秒就助攻海皮亞首開紀錄，後者則在下半場親自進球錦上添花，使得俱樂部即將引進華倫西亞左後衛奧雷利奧的消息顯得有些多余。

　　考慮到紅軍這個周末還要在安菲爾德主場迎來歷史上第203次默施斯德打比，而對手愛華頓又在去年除夕以來的11場聯賽中8勝2平只輸一場、轉眼就從降級區邊緣攀升到積分榜的上半區、甚至還有希望沖擊下賽季的足協盃資格，周二在聖安德魯斯的大勝絕對可以起到鼓舞本隊士氣，同時打擊對手信心的雙重心理作用。

　　“我聽說有些愛華頓球員對於周末的打比很有信心，但問題是信心我們也有，這將令比賽更加有趣”，紅軍隊長謝拉特代表全隊發出了挑戰，“最近我們總因為不會進球而飽受批評，因此我希望我們已經通過實際比賽證明那是錯誤的。事實上，我們對做客伯明翰的這場比賽感到非常滿意。”

　　伯明翰開賽不久就兩球落後喪失了鬥志，使得西索科在上半場的最大“對手”變成了自己的眼鏡───馬里人以熱刺老將戴維斯為榜樣戴了副鮮豔的紅色眼鏡登場，結果沒多久就因為蒸汽太多而不得不頻頻去場邊接受處理。最終，西索科失去了耐心，拒絕再次戴上眼鏡，好在他那只視力已經恢復到80%的右眼在下半場通過了“裸奔”的考驗。

　　“是西索科自己提出不戴眼鏡繼續比賽的，這顯示出他的巨大勇氣，而他是今天最大的贏家”，本尼蒂斯賽後也對他提出表揚，“我堅信他可以成長為英超最好的中場之一，因為他具備足夠的心理素質和能力。”

　　西索科的歸來將“解放”謝拉特───當初紅軍取得聯賽11連勝，很大程度上就是因為謝拉特“右傾”，而西索科和艾朗素承擔了中場防守的責任。周二賽中，謝拉特第71分鐘被施斯換下前再次出任右邊中場，雖然沒有在比賽中進球，但在開賽不到1分鐘主罰自由球導致進球後，還先後直接助攻克勞奇、莫里恩特斯和里塞，輕鬆捧走“本場最佳”的香檳。

記者顏強報道 他的右眼視力可能才恢復了一半多，可是哪怕西索科只有這一只右眼的一半視力，也要比伯明翰現場播音員視力要好──比賽打了40分鐘，利物浦3比0領先了，播音員還在廣播里說：“大家都准備去看重賽嗎？”

　　3周前，西索科的右眼還處於完全失明狀態，和本菲卡那一戰，幾乎斷送了剛開始的職業生涯。當時隊醫馬克﹒沃勒打開手電筒，一直伸到馬里中場右眼前2釐米的距離，西索科仍然什麼都看不到。失明的狀態持續了差不多兩周。

　　“那是我生命中最痛苦的兩周，什麼都不能做，內心無比孤獨。我真的很害怕，怕自己再也踢不了球了，忍不住要哭。我無法接受右眼失明的症斷，這是我經過的最長的兩周。”

　　說他右眼失明的，是第一時間參與治療的葡萄牙大夫。賓尼迪斯和沃勒都不接受這種分析，西索科迅速被送回利物浦，馬上住進了利物浦大學醫學院的聖保羅醫科。這裡是以醫科聞名的國際名校，6個諾貝爾獎得主有4個來自醫學院。

　　強韌的生命力和科學的治療，能讓奇跡變成平常事，更何況葡萄牙大夫的症斷有些蒙古大夫意味。痛苦的兩周結束後，視力在一天一天恢復，一個月後，西索科開始參加訓練了，當然，他必須戴著荷蘭人戴維斯當年在祖雲達斯佩戴的那種護目鏡。隊醫給了他一副紅色的，完全利物浦風格。

　　更出人意料的是，這場屠宰伯明翰的比賽，賓尼迪斯居然讓西索科首發登場。一周內打的第三場比賽，主教練確實也在用人上有些捉襟見肘，備戰周末打比，讓西索科上，和沃勒的首肯相關，但賓尼迪斯承認自己多少有些冒險。

　　從失明到復明，似乎讓西索科視線更加清晰。55秒的首粒進球，來自他輕挑海皮亞的助攻。4分鐘後第二個球，又是他在中場分球給右路狂奔的謝拉特。不可思議的是，第23分鐘，由於紅色護目鏡鏡片上起了水霧，西索科干脆跑到場邊，把護目鏡往替補席上一扔了事。90分鐘下來，他的右眼依舊精光四射。

　　“讓我最高興的不僅是勝利和進球，還包括莫莫的復出。他戴著那幅眼鏡訓練了一周，起霧後他決定扔掉眼鏡繼續比賽，可見這是一個多麼勇敢的戰士！他敢於承擔風險，因為他是一個意志頑強的勝利者。他肯定會成為一個偉大的中場。”賓尼迪斯3月23日說。

　　護目鏡被扔到替補席上後，摩連迪斯拿起了，開玩笑地戴了戴。下半場替補上場後，他馬上就有了進球──這也是西索科的助攻。

記者顏強報道 上半場3比0領先的比賽，賓尼迪斯手下的利物浦還從沒踢過。他們倒是很熟悉上半場對手3比0領先的比賽。不過3月21日在藍色的對手面前，利物浦不可能成為米蘭。謝拉特又導演了一場經典的大屠殺，7球狂灌伯明翰，這是自1931年愛華頓9比1打敗索斯波特後，足總杯1／4決賽里第一次出現一隊進7球的撼人場面。1周內的第3場比賽，利物浦總共打進15球，達格利什時代瘋魔般的紅軍又殺回來了！

　　和冠軍杯伊斯坦布爾之夜相比，這場比賽有著許多類似之處：例如開場就有進球，例如上半場未過半，基維爾就成為了利物浦換人舉動介竟人物。只是這次的次序都是相反的：55秒海皮亞頭球得分，21分鐘因為特勞雷受傷，基維爾替補登場。

　　由於連續征戰，周末又有和愛華頓對撼的同城打比，賓尼迪斯不得不對陣容進行大調整。與3天前三槍射落喜鵲的比賽相比，主力陣容更換了6人，登場者甚至包括了眼疾初愈的西索科，由他在中場為謝拉特和艾朗素撐腰。誰能想到這個右眼視力恢復不過七成的馬里人，一開場就有杰出表現──杜恩在本方半場放倒艾朗素，謝拉特左路開出自由球入禁區，西索科輕巧一挑，後門柱海皮亞頭球破門。伯明翰門將泰勒連人影都沒看清楚。

　　這才55秒！主場觀眾還有許多沒找到位置，就聽到4000個利物浦客隊球迷在一旁歡呼了。跟以往的看台文化相比，英國球迷看球的熱情略有下降，到場時間越來越遲，大概開場3到4分鐘，才能各就各位──這個時間對利物浦也太長了！不到5分鐘，又是西索科在中路分球給謝拉特，隊長右路直線衝刺，然後橫傳中路，高速插上的克勞奇搶點破門。

　　兩頓悶棍不僅敲暈了對手，也敲暈了觀眾。伯明翰主場始終靜悄悄，雖然有兩個球迷沖下看台，想要找布魯斯算賬，不過藍色球迷並沒有像他們的同城對手維拉人那樣，以全體起立來哄主教練下課。警察保護介竟史蒂夫﹒布魯斯，完全不敢正視球迷的目光，當然他多少還有些幽默感，例如第75分鐘，他居然會讓自己的兒子在球隊0比6落後的情況下替補登場，似乎亞歷克斯﹒布魯斯能幫他整飭好防線。

　　雪崩般的格局，前5分鐘已確定。伯明翰勉強反扑了兩下，然而9個主力缺陣，這些零星的攻勢，與其說是想扳回比賽，不如說是純粹做給主場球迷看看，交差了事。在突然找到進球感覺的利物浦隊面前，如此的進攻完全不值一提。“我們好像突然找到了進攻的感覺，不論什麼位置、什麼進攻方式，都能帶來進球。”克勞奇突然覺得自己開了天目。事實也是如此，第38分鐘，克勞奇又一次破門。過去24場比賽，克勞奇進了12個球，儼然成了個高產射手。

　　賓尼迪斯說他中場休息時，簡直不敢相信一切是真實的。來英國後，他跟布魯斯4次交手無一勝績，沒想到今天伯明翰陣容如此殘缺，更毫無鬥志。布魯斯中場把守門員都換了，卻換來了替補門將自擺烏龍，送給利物浦第6個進球的結局。此前2個進球，第4個是芬蘭、祖安法蘭和謝拉特配合的結果，讓摩連迪斯門前輕鬆得分﹔第5個又是謝拉特助攻左路插上的懷斯，懷斯踢出了一記商標式的左腳爆射。終場結束時，施斯善始善終地用第7個進球羞辱伯明翰，隨後無聊地挑釁主場球迷。

　　一周下來，利物浦似乎人人都能進球了，可一切仍源自隊長謝拉特。7球當中4個有他的助攻，整場比賽的節奏，也始終由謝拉特控制著。下一個藍色對手要小心了。
