The Reds could win the FA Cup for the seventh time and if they do they will have the same number of wins as Aston Villa. Only Manchester United 11, Arsenal 10 and Tottenham 8 have won it more often.

This will be Liverpool's seventh appearance at the Millennium Stadium. They have won four and lost two of the previous six with both defeats coming at the hands of London sides.

Should the Reds score three goals today they will equal the club record for most FA Cup goals in a season. In 1989-90 they scored 20 without reaching the Final.

A win today will set a new club record of 12 successive victories in all competitions. In the previous 11 games the Reds have scored 32 goals.

This is the last chance for Liverpool to equal a club record by keeping their 34th clean sheet of the season. They have achieved the feat in three previous seasons 1970-71, 1978-79 and 1983-84.

Xabi Alonso's last goal for the Reds came in the Third Round at Luton-his shot from inside his own half.

Harry Kewell could be the first Australian to win an FA Cup Winners medal.

Should Jerzy Dudek make an appearance he will be the first Pole to play in an FA Cup Final while Momo Sissoko and Djimi Traore would be the first Mali Internationals to appear.

Djibril Cisse scored in his 20th different game for the Reds last Sunday. Liverpool have yet to lose.

Peter Crouch has scored in ten games for Liverpool during his first season at Anfield. The Reds have won each time while the Reds have also won each of the ten games in which Fernando Morientes has found the net.

Liverpool did the double over West Ham in the Premiership this season. Xabi Alonso and Bolo Zenden scored in a 2-0 win at Anfield while Djibril Cisse was on target twice at Upton Park with Nigel Reo-Coker scoring for the Hammers in the Reds 2-1 victory.

The Reds are unbeaten in the last eight meetings with the Hammers.

This is the third season in a row West Ham have played at the Millennium Stadium. In 2004 they lost the Play-Off Final to Crystal Palace but returned 12 months later to defeat Preston.

West Ham have won the FA Cup in 1964, 1975 and 1980 with their only loss in the Final coming in 1923 when Wembley staged the Final for the first time.

The men who led The Hammers to those successes sadly passed away this year. Ron Greenwood was in charge in 1964 while John Lyall managed the club in both 1975 and 1980.

Current Hammers boss Alan Pardew was on the winning side against Liverpool in the FA Cup Semi-Final in 1990. He scored the winner for Crystal Palace in a dramatic 4-3 win.

Should Teddy Sheringham play in the Final he will be the oldest player to appear in the Final for over 80 years aged 40.

He already holds one FA Cup record. In 1999 he scored the quickest ever goal by a substitute in a Final when he scored for Manchester United just 96 seconds after coming on in 1999 against Newcastle at Wembley.

Teddy played against Liverpool for Millwall in this competition 16 years ago and scored for Tottenham at Anfield in 1995.

Dean Ashton is playing in the Final only because his previous club Norwich City left him out of their Third Round tie to avoid him being cup-tied. Their opponents that day in January-West Ham United!

Shaka Hislop saved a penalty against Liverpool two years ago in Portsmouth's FA Cup win over Liverpool with Michael Owen the guilty party.

Hislop was Newcastle's unused goalkeeping substitute in 1998.

Nigel Reo-Coker is West Ham's youngest captain since the 'great' Bobby Moore.

James Collins is a Liverpool supporter and realised an ambition in the recent league game when he came up against boyhood hero Robbie Fowler.

Lionel Scaloni could be the first Argentinian to play in the FA Cup Final since Osvaldo Ardiles while Israel could be represented for the first time in the final by Yossi Benayoun or less likely Yaniv Katan.

West Ham's scorers in this competition this season are:- Ashton 2, Harewood 2, Zamora 2, Etherington 1, Mullins 1, Sheringham 1.

Last season saw the first ever Final to be decided by a penalty shoot-out when Arsenal defeated Manchester United. Liverpool have played in two FA Cup ties decided on penalties and won them both against Portsmouth in 1992 and Birmingham in 1995.

West Ham, for their part, have played in three, winning one and losing two.

Since the Second World War London teams have met North-West opposition 13 times in the Final with those from the capital winning nine of them. Those four victories for the North-West have come in the last five meetings including Liverpool’s 2001 success over Arsenal.

DIDI HOPING FOR A PIECE OF THE ACTION

Dietmar Hamann is hoping to play a part in the FA Cup Final against West Ham on Saturday and help Liverpool win more silverware.
The German midfield ace knows he is not a guaranteed starter for the match but added he will be ready if the manager needs him.

"It doesn't make any difference to my preparations and I'll prepare as if I'm playing tomorrow," commented Hamann.

"The manager will pick what he thinks is his best eleven and I'll hope to be in it. If not, I may be needed in the later stages of the game.

"You can't take anything for granted in this game, especially when you play for a big club. Every final is special. Most of the players here have a lot of years left to reach another cup final, but you never know when the last will be. It could be when you're 24, or it could be when you're 32, like me.

"Look at Teddy Sheringham. He's 40 now and he's on his way to another final. You have to enjoy the occasion and appreciate what your club has done to get there.

"I still get the same feelings now I had when I first reached a final. If you don't get that buzz you'll never perform to the level you did.

"We knocked Manchester United and Chelsea out, so we deserve to be favourites. But when we played them recently at Upton Park we saw they are a very good side. They pass the ball well and have a lot of pace.

"They're a side that can hurt you, so we've got to be on our toes. Sometimes it's easier to go into a game as underdogs, because everyone expects the other team to win. The pressure is more on us, but we can deal with that.

"Most of the boys have been through a lot of finals. They took part in the game in Istanbul so there's no advice they need from me. Once the whistle blows they'll deal with it.

"That's what it's about at Liverpool. You want to create a winning habit. It's been a very good season for us, collecting over 80 points. There's been a major improvement on last year and victory on Saturday would be another step forward. It's all about getting used to winning."

Even if not selected to start the game Hamann says there will be no animosity on his part towards the likes of Xabi Alonso and Momo Sissoko, and believes they are a good central midfield partnership.

"Both Momo and Xabi deserve their place because they've done so well," added Hamann.

"But I know what I'm capable of and I'm delighted to be here for another year. I'll fight for my place next year.

"I played about 29 or 30 games this year and I've no reason to believe I'll play any less next year. I had a bit of an injury after we lost to Chelsea, so I might have played even more.

"You can't only play with young players and you can't only play with old ones. You need a mixture.

"Momo has been very good since he joined us. The English game suits him very well because he's a physical player, likes to tackle and isn't scared. I thought when he joined England would suit him more than Spain, and it's proved that way. He's been a big success and there's still plenty more to come."

CARRA: GERRARD CAN BE THE GREATEST

Jamie Carragher believes Steven Gerrard can already be counted as one of the all-time greats to play for Liverpool.
The Reds centre half has a lot of respect for Gerrard, not only as a team-mate but as a friend, and says he is a close second to Kenny Dalglish in his ranking as the best player ever to represent the club.

"I saw on Liverpoolfc.tv they were doing a poll on the 100 greatest Liverpool players," Carragher said. "In my opinion, Steven Gerrard is second only to Kenny Dalglish as the greatest to ever play for Liverpool.

"There have been many world class players like Graeme Souness in his position, and the list is a long one at Liverpool, but for what Stevie's achieved at such a young age, I can't believe too many others were better.

"If he can win a few league titles, he may even go beyond Kenny. I don't think there's any better compliment I can pay to him than that, but he's still younger now than Kenny was when he signed for Liverpool, so who knows what he can become?

"I suppose at the end of his career it will be the number of league titles he's won which will decide it, but people probably forget he's still only 25, so he's got a lot of time to win more trophies."

MORIENTES: MADRID ARE ENVIOUS OF US

Fernando Morientes has spoken of his pride and honour to be part of the Liverpool squad for the FA Cup Final and revealed his former team-mates at Real Madrid are envious of the success Liverpool have enjoyed recently
The Spanish giants have had a barren spell in recent times while Liverpool under Rafael Benitez have won the Champions League and are now preparing for the FA Cup Final.

"It is true to say that Madrid have not enjoyed the best of times with what they have won over the last few years and the people there that I keep in touch with, such as Casillas and Salgado, they are envious," Morientes revealed.

"I have had calls from them and from Raul and my other friends who are still at the club, and while they haven't shown jealousy exactly, maybe they have been envious because I'm playing for this club with a great reputation in Spain.

"Liverpool have a really big stature in Spain. They always have done. They're a bit envious of the success we've had. They have not had any finals at all in three years, and no medals, and we have been to many finals. They tell me they are happy for me, but maybe they are also a little envious."

The Spanish international also spoke of his burning desire to really make a name for himself at Anfield and prove to people he can be a big success in England.

"This is not my last game for Liverpool, not at all," added Morientes. "I said halfway through the season that I am about halfway through my job here.

"I have got two years left on my contract and as of today, unless anything out of the ordinary happens, I see myself starting the next season at Liverpool.

"It's a journey I'm on with Liverpool. I am only halfway through my journey and would like to reproduce the form that I had at Real Madrid and Monaco.

"Of course I will always be connected with Madrid, just as Gerrard and Carragher are with Liverpool. I had 14 happy years in Spain but I don't ever plan to go back as a footballer. I came to England because I saw it as my chance at this stage of my career to enrich myself as a player and a person.

"It would be a dream to score in the FA Cup Final, it would be a great moment in my career and a great thing for me.

"I don't know about the best moment in my career because, thank God, I have been lucky to have some great moments but it would be a moment to treasure for a long time.

"You don't get the chance to score in cup finals too many times in your career. It would be right up there with my best memories.

"I think it's right to say that you've not seen the real Fernando Morientes since I arrived here in England. Saturday provides the stage for me to announce myself and I have got a real desire to take that chance.

"What better time than Saturday to go and do it? And then you will see the real Fernando Morientes.

"I'm the first to be disappointed with my form since I came to Liverpool, I am the first to accept that, but I have two or three years of top-flight football left in my career.

"I have been playing for 14 years and I've been aware that I haven't recently been hitting the level of performance I achieved when I was with Real Madrid and Monaco. But I feel I've still got a lot to offer and I'm going to produce that. I would like to finish my career here at Liverpool, and I would like the chance to show the real Morientes."

REDS HEADING FOR NO.1 IN DOWNLOAD CHART

'Ring of Fire', the official Liverpool Football Club FA Cup final single, is now available to download. All net proceeds from the single will go to the Marina Dalglish Appeal, so don't delay, download 'Ring of Fire' today.
Originally penned by June Carter and Merie Kilgour, the song reached No.1 in the Country Charts when recorded by Johnny Cash in 1963 and now Liverpool Football Club are hoping to score a Number One of their own with the new version in the Official Download Chart.

Performed by 'The Boot Room All-Stars' - Tim Speed and Apollo 440 - and featuring the distinctive vocals of Echo and the Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch, the song is available as a download only on liverpoolfc.tv.

The single is selling fast but still needs more fans to download it if it is to storm straight into the Official Download Chart at No.1.

HYYPIA LOOKING TO ADD TO MEDAL COLLECTION

Sami Hyypia talks to Liverpoolfc.tv about his hopes to win another FA Cup medal, memories of the 2001 final against Arsenal and his defensive partnership with Jamie Carragher.
Liverpoolfc.tv: Sami you are heading to another FA Cup Final. You mentioned after the semi-final the disappointment that it's not at Wembley but it's still great to be going to the cup final?

Sami Hyypia: It's an opportunity to win another medal and bring the cup home to Liverpool so we are desperate to win it and everybody's concentrating hard on Saturday's game. We won't be underestimating West Ham at all but if we play like we have done in the past few months then we should be okay.

What would two trophies in two years say about this Liverpool squad?

I look at the Premiership and we've improved a lot from last season and we've been more consistent so we are going forward and cup finals of course are a bonus, but I'm delighted to be involved in the cup final. All the people who support Liverpool want us to be successful.

There seems to be a lot of excitement about the way this squad is developing?

I think so and it will be very interesting in the summer to see what is going to happen. We have one more game and we will try to win it and it's a very important game the FA Cup Final, and then I will go on holiday and start to prepare myself for next season.

Winning the FA Cup or not Sami people will talk about the title challenge for next season. The FA Cup would be the right way to finish off the season and then obviously go into next season with confidence as high as it could possibly be I would imagine?

I think so. Last season the Champions League Final made our season actually. In the Premiership we weren't happy how it went but this season in the Premiership we have done much better and winning the FA Cup would make our season. We are happy with our Premiership form this season and this season we've improved a lot from the last so we now want to win the cup.

Then it's about taking the progression you've made this season into the next one isn't it and hopefully get you closer to Chelsea?

I think so and they will want to improve in the summer and we are intending to do the same.

Sami can you draw on the memories of when you beat Arsenal in 2001 as an inspiration for this final?

I don't know, it was one of the most incredible games I have ever played in my whole career. To be dominated for 80 minutes and then score two goals it was an incredible game but I remember how glad I was, how glad the supporters were after the game and that gives me the desire to do it again.

It tells you that you can never give up in a cup final doesn't it?

One year ago we had a similar situation in Istanbul so we just have to concentrate on the whole game and hopefully we'll do well.

West Ham have some physical strikers like Dean Ashton and Marlon Harewood who could cause you problems?

Every team has physical strikers and I think defensively if we work like we have been doing all season with the whole team then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yourself and Jamie Carragher have played well together haven't you?

I think we have a good understanding and Carra is a brilliant player to play with in the defence. It's not only the back and it's the whole team who has to work hard defensively and of course when you are not conceding many goals the keeper and the defence get all the plaudits, but I think these guys up front are doing a good job to help us so that's the most important thing where we have improved.
