Chelsea winger Damien Duff has been given permission to discuss a possible transfer to Anfield.

The Irish international has previously spoken of his desire to play for Liverpool. Former Reds boss Gerard Houllier tried to bring him to Anfield but once Chelsea recurited the Russian, we were unable to compete with them.

For the benefit of those on other planets, we simply couldn't compete financially as a result of Chelsea's dramatic cash injection at the time.

The 27-year-old Irishman has been excused from training today so that he can sort out his future.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also keen on the possibility of landing him but it is highly unlikely that he would snub the chance to sign for Liverpool if his previous opinions about the club haven't changed.

The agent that represents Juventus striker David Trezeguet says his client is in no rush to look for a move away from the club.

A host of top European clubs including ourselves are interested in signing the player but Patrizia Pighini says what happens next is really down to Juventus.

"The player does not have a desire to move," said Pighini

"At the moment his future is in Juve's hands. When the management make a decision on David, he will decide his own future.

"Trezeguet is not discounting anything. Lyon would be good because he has lived many years in France, while Inter would allow him to stay close to Turin and Real would be good because his wife has Spanish origins and he also respects Fabio Capello."

Markus Babbel's Liverpool career may have been tragically cut down in its prime through illness but the former German international did more than enough in his four years at Anfield to be considered a true legend of the club. Bavarian born, Babbel initially made his name with Bayern Munich and was a key contributor to his country's triumph at Euro 96. When Gerard Houllier snapped him up on a free transfer in 2000 it was a move that was widely acclaimed by the Liverpool fans and the attacking right full-back quickly set about justifying this optimism. A highly polished performer, Babbel's experience shone through as a dream first season on Merseyside culminated in that never-to-be-forgotten treble cup success. The popular German was heavily involved each triumph, with his most memorable contribution being the early headed goal that sparked a goal-fest in the Westfalenstadion as Alaves were beaten in the Uefa Cup Final. Another important strike that season came at Goodison Park as Everton were famously defeated 3-2 in a game that went some way to securing Champions League qualification. A glorious future in red beckoned but after playing in the 2001 Charity Shield victory over Manchester United he was struck down by the debilitating Guillan-Barre Syndrome, a rare virus that affected his nervous system and left him confined to a wheelchair. As a result, he missed the entire 2001/02 campaign. His charging forays down the right flank were sorely missed but intensive treatment back in his homeland eventually quelled fears that Babbel's career could be over. He displayed great courage and determination to battle his way back to full fitness but, sadly, was never the same player again. Frustrated at his failure to regain top form, he uncharacteristically suffered bouts of indiscipline that resulted in a bust-up with Houllier and him being loaned out to Blackburn in 2003/04. On his eventual return to Melwood it was quickly made clear that his Anfield days were numbered and in the summer of 2004 Babbel returned to Germany to sign for Stuttgart. He left Liverpool with the best wishes of everyone at the club and will be remembered in the annals of this club's history as a truly heroic figure who would have achieved much more had it not been for his unfortunate illness.

貝拉米有信心挑戰切爾西 信心十足的貝拉米相信他的新東家利物浦極有可能向切爾西發出挑戰。

這位27歲的威爾士人在上周初次代表利物浦上陣的友誼賽中取得進球，接下來在周六，利物浦將會再有一場友誼賽，這又將是貝拉米的機會，而目前利物浦全隊均在瑞士進行訓練及比賽。

主帥本尼特斯已經從西班牙休假回到隊中，他的回來使得利物浦的轉會計划又再一次展開，而在接下來的比賽中，新購入的智利邊鋒岡薩雷斯將有可能初次上陣。

但是貝拉米已經將目標瞄准在新賽季第一場比賽的首發，他說：“我們將會在社區盾的比賽中與切爾西碰面，雖然這并不是一場重要的比賽，但這是我們建立好開始的機會，可能也會借此向人們送去一些信息。

他們是強大的球隊，但是我想我們也有非常好的球員，切爾西的陣容很強，但是我想我們可以與他們匹敵。”

Jermaine Pennant, a reported transfer target for Liverpool, has revealed that he's not expecting to leave Birmingham this summer.



The former Arsenal winger, who impressed despite Birmingham's relegation from the Premiership last season, has been linked with a £5.5m move to Liverpool.

However, Pennant insists he hasn't heard anything from Rafa Benitez's side and is focusing on helping the Blues return to the top flight.

He said: "I still have two years left on my contract and Birmingham have said nothing to me about whether they want to let me go or (if) they have agreed anything with another club. And Liverpool haven't contacted me, so that's it.

"I am taking every day as it comes as a Birmingham player. All the speculation and stuff doesn't bother me. If no-one actually says anything to me, then I ignore it.

"Like I said, I'm still here and I'm looking forward to the start of the season. No-one likes to get relegated. And we shouldn't have gone down, everyone knows that.

"That's in the past now, let's look to the future, try and rebuild and get back into the Premiership. We've got some new players in who are keen to impress, and mainly the same squad as last season.

"I'm sure what we are doing, all the hard work in training, and the determination of everyone, we will take those things into the Championship. I think we've definitely got a chance of coming back up."

“我现在仍然是一名伯明翰球员，那些转会的传闻不会影响到我。如果没有人站在我的面前亲口对我说，我就不会认为它是真的。”

“我的目标是下个赛季的英冠联赛，上赛季伯明翰惨遭降级，没有人喜欢这样，所以我们必须返回到英超。过去的不愉快已经过去了，今年夏天俱乐部已经签来了几名出色的球员，而且球队还保留了上赛季的大部分人马，所以今年伯明翰很有希望。”

A goal from young striker Craig Lindfield has given Liverpool a 1-0 half-time lead over Crewe Alexandra in this afternoon's pre-season friendly at Gresty Road.  
Lindfield, the Reds top scorer in last season's successful FA Youth Cup campaign, marked his first senior start for the club in style with a cracking strike after 18 minutes.
  
The goal owed much to the good approach play of Bolo Zenden and Robbie Fowler but Lindfield's impressive close-range finish into the top corner was emphatic.
  
Seven minutes later the Wirral-born 17-year old almost doubled his tally with a shot that was tipped over the bar and then tried his luck with an audacious over-head kick.
  
Other than that there has been little else of note to report apart from a few good touches by new signing from Valencia Fabio Aurelio, who has settled well on his debut and looked comfortable in his role on the left of midfield.

Crewe Alexandra assistant boss Neil Baker is relishing Liverpool's visit to Gresty Road this afternoon where a capacity crowd will welcome the 2006 FA Cup winners.  
The Reds will once again be without their World Cup stars but Baker believes there's enough quality within Rafa Benitez's squad to make this a special occasion.
  
"We might not have the sort of link we had with Liverpool before, but we do get to know about most of their young players and how they are doing," says Baker.
  
"Myself and Glyn Chamberlain (head scout) go to see most of their youngsters in the reserve games there so we do keep tabs on that.
  
"We know Liver pool's World Cup players won't be playing, but there will still be some good players on show. It will be good to see Craig Bellamy play and there will be some terrific talent for the supporters.
  
"It will be nice to play a very good side in front of a good crowd, but we will certainly have to do a bit more running without the ball."
  
All remaining tickets for the game were snapped up yesterday morning.
