Liverpool Under-18s go looking for Mersey pride on Saturday morning when they take on their rivals Everton in the mini derby at Netherton.  
The Reds lost 1-0 at home to Everton earlier this season so John Owens side will be looking to restore pride and take the three points on Saturday.
  
The Everton game will be the final Academy match for Owens team before the two semi-final clashes with Southampton in the FA Youth Cup.
  
"Whenever Liverpool and Everton play it is always a game both sides really want to win," reflected Owens. "We are no different and we are looking forward to it. I'm sure Everton are the same.
  
"These games always have an extra edge than the other Academy League matches because most of the boys have been playing against each other from a very young age in schools matches, representative games and for their clubs, so they know each other well and are looking to get one over the other.
  
"We try to tell them to treat each game the same and play with the same attitude, but obviously it is different with two teams from the same city.
  
"We need to bounce back after the defeat against Wolves and there is no better game to do that in than the derby."

Rafael Benitez has spoken of his admiration for Peter Crouch and enthused how happy he was to see him score his first goal for England against Uruguay at Anfield in midweek.  
The Reds boss believes the goal will give his six foot seven striker a lot of confidence, and feels he has gone a long way to booking his ticket on the England plane for the World Cup finals.
  
"I was pleased to see Crouch score his first goal for his country as all strikers like to score goals, and it's good for him as well as good for us," enthused Benitez.
  
"Crouch is a player I like as he causes a lot of problems for defenders. He hasn't got the pace of Cisse for example but he can give the team other things. He is good in the air and very good on the ground and can make things happen.
  
"He can change games and we have done much better away from home with Crouch in the team if you compare it with last season.
  
"In my opinion Crouch should always be in your squad as he gives you something different to other players."

Rafael Benitez has told his players to put aside all talk and thoughts on Benfica in the Champions League, and concentrate on trying to take three points off Charlton on Saturday.  
With Manchester United not playing until Monday night at Wigan, the Liverpool manager knows his team will go second in the Premiership if they win or draw against Alan Curbishley's side.
  
"It's always good to go into a big game with a win but I have told the players we need to be focused on Charlton and not think about Benfica," explained Benitez.
  
The Reds will be looking for an improved showing against a Charlton side who beat them 2-0 at the Valley a month ago.
  
"I have bad memories of the game at Charlton because it was a strange game as we controlled the game for the first 40 minutes, only to concede two goals in five minutes," reasoned the Liverpool manager.
  
"The only thing we can do is to analyse what went wrong and make sure we don't do the same mistakes this time around.
  
"Charlton are having a very good season. They started very well and are a team that can play good football. They have the two Bent's up front who are dangerous players."

Fans who wish to post a message of support for Gary McAllister after the tragic death of his wife Denise yesterday can now leave a message on our discussion forums, which we will forward on to the former Anfield favourite.  
The wife of the former Scotland captain lost her battle against breast cancer on Friday, as the mother-of-two passed away in a Nottingham hospital with her husband at her bedside.
  
The Treble-winning midfielder gave up his job as player-manager of Coventry City in 2003 to nurse his wife during her illness. It was thought that Denise's condition had been improving but it took a turn for the worse over recent months.
  
Denise was an ambassador for Breast Cancer Care and took part in a star-studded charity fashion show in 2002.
  
The thoughts of everyone connected to Liverpool Football Club are with Gary and his family at this very sad time.
